Good thing I already cashed my ticket. I'd hate to be someone who bet on the second place finisher.
That's their problem. If MS is disqualified, they are obliged to pay the 2nd place finisher.
Horses DQ'd immediately after the race are the same as the ones DQ'd a week later. There is no difference.
We are in 2021. Majority of action is done on line through various betting sites or electronically through the track itself.
So will be interesting how they handle it. Will they try to take back the cash from the initial winners if they have money in their account.
Dan Patrick just referenced the '68 Derby on his show. Dancer's Image won, but was later disqualified and Forward Pass declared the winner. Winning bets placed on Forward Pass were not paid.

Shack, they are not obligated..........and there is a difference between DQs.........Immediately after the race DQs are a result of riding or driving infractions which are adjudicated prior to the race being declared official...........DQs a week or so later are usually for drug infractions long after the race is declared official...........i have followed Horse Racing both Thoroughbred and Standardbred for decades,,,,,i kinda know the rules...
I'll take your word for it, then. But IMO, logic dictates that if the 2nd place horse is declared the winner, those tickets should be honoured. It's the same reasoning as a DQ for interference.
It is the delay that causes the confusion.
Shackie,,,ive experienced this scenario..........the horse i bet finished 2nd and i tore up the ticket....a very late inquiry flashed on the Tote Board and eventually the winner was dq,d....man was i pissed....so i learned a lesson way back when......never throw away a ticket until the race is deemed official...............athough in this day and age with E betting this wont happen...............................once the race is declared official, there is no confusion among veteran racetrack bettors...........
I was a kid and we used to go to Ft. Erie once or twice a summer when we vacationed at Crystal Beach. I'd unfailingly check out the discarded tickets on the ground to see if someone mistakenly threw away a winner.

Baffert has been accused of cheating for years....in fact he has 5 positives on the go................so relying on right wing talking points about "cancel culture" is beyond ludicrous
