Not that it in any way justifies his actions, but there are some factors that can paint him in a somewhat sympathetic light.
Young/immature, in a foreign country, foreign language, foreign culture under an enormous professional pressure and combine those with the previously revealed emotional/depression issues. Maybe his judgement was affected by meds. Maybe he has learned from this incident and he is remorseful, etc. etc.. I'm sure the lawyers and the spin masters can come up with more stuff. He is a very young and a very valuable commodity that is hard to find in MLB. Rogers is a business. Does the potential bad PR outweigh the value to the franchise on the field which can translate into increased attendance and viewership and $$$.
Maybe Rogers can even help work out a settlement so that it does not go to court and his ability to cross borders would not be affected
