The way you ask the question, you make the answer obvious!

Next time, ask "Of these 4, 3 were taken on the first round: which ones?" :biggrin1:

Perry
Good point. I meant to write, "...Which one of these four was not taken in the first round?"

However, I'm not clear on how I made the answer obvious.

Is this left over from last year or did he do something in the off-season like blow his nose too hard?

The Jays signed Tyler Clippard to a minor league contract today with an invitation to spring training. Although he just turned 33, Clippard has had a distinguished career with several teams pitching out of the bullpen. Like many of the other relievers that the Jays have picked up, like Al Albuquerque< Craig Breslow et al, he has come off a bummer of a season and is trying to stay in baseball. Good luck and hopefully, maybe last year was just one bad season.

and now zeke is gone and so ends my presidency of the zeke fan club. The guy busted his arse every time...sure he couldn't hit me if I threw left handed,,,,,but he hustled and had speed and was a good teammate. I heard somebody say that Mr. Gibbons liked him, but I don't think so.

Of the 2017 Jays with over 250 PA, only 3 had OPS+ over 100: Josh D, Smoak and Zeke.
Yup, everyone else was below ML average.

Something doesn't sound right. From my recollection, I am thinking a league average for "on base plus slugging" would probably be close to .700.

If you meant 1.000, did Zeke have over that? I'd be shocked if that was the case.

I just checked, Donaldson had OPS of .944 and Smoak was .883.

Not sure what you are looking at.

I'd keep Zeke over Pompey anyday.

Dont know why Pompey is still with the club.

Pompey is still on the 40 man roster!

Granderson Grichuk Hernandez and Pillar are likely to be the outfielders when they break camp. Alford Smith and probably Pompey will be in the minors. IMO at least 6 of those are superior to Zeke. That is not a knock on Zeke, just reality!

He's referring to an advanced stat called OPS+
100 is league average , anything over is good.
It's a useful stat because it takes things like ball park and league average OPS into consideration for any particular year. These factors change from year to year.
For example in 2017 there was over 6000 homers and league avg OPS was .750 , whereas in 2015 only 4900 homers were hit with league avg of .721.

A .700 OPS in 2017 would be well below average.

Bautista had a OPS of .674 in 2017, OPS+ works out to a very mediocre 76

Thanks for that. I'd never heard of that one.

My only question is, why was I not given notification of this new metric from the appropriate sources?
