You are right Upton was a good player. So far he has shown nothing offensively since his arrival. Hope you are right but I think this guys glory days are long gone!
Well, he's had a week, you're right, he's a bum.
That's a big enough sample size.

Costanza, you are really great with numbers, please explain to us how Happ cannot be an all-star with the stats he's put up with this season please??!

Jays win again, but also set a new MLB record for most strikeouts in a 4 game series with 59. I think we need a new hitting coach, one that can teach patience at the plate.

At the time, his ERA was a tad high and I'm guessing his WHIP was to. Not to mention other factors such as fans having to vote for people, and Ned Yost being a retard who gets to pick a bunch of players.

The word around the league is that the Jays can't hit home runs with men on base.

Well AK, thank you for the sincere compliment.

I can offer an explanation, it's worth what you're paying to read it, but there's a certain amount of logic/sense to it.

There are a limited number of All Star roster spots, 34 per league.
Every team must be represented.
The Toronto Blue Jays are 1 of 15 teams in the A.L. (6.66% of the league).
With the active all stars they had this year (look below), they had 4 of 34 spots, (11.76% of the players).
Which player, from what team, do you drop, in order to include J. A. Happ?
Marco Estrada (D.L.), Aaron Sanchez (as a replacement), Michael Saunders, Edwin Encarnacion & Josh Donaldson are Blue Jays already named to the team.
In short, the All Star game is not a representation of the 34 best players in each league, as there has to be a rep from each team, a participation ribbon, if you will.
The N.H.L. mid-season All Star game is set up much the same way.

J. A. Happ is having a terrific season, don't be blinded by wins though.
As has been discussed in the past, wins are a very misleading statistic as to the value of a starting pitcher.
I haven't looked recently, but I believe both Aaron Sanchez & Marco Estrada have better underlying numbers.

Jays now lead the AL in ERA. and tops in the majors with 71 quality starts.
Looks like the bullpen is coming together nicely. Grilli and Biagini have been impressive lately. The new guy Benoit looks pretty sharp too.

Last year Jacoby was a genius but this year he is a bum.

Sort of like how Pete Walker was a bum last year but the way the starters have performed this year he's a genius.

Or maybe it is the normal ups and downs of the players' performance as a group that will fluctuate no matter who the coaches are. Look at the Royals. WS champs last year and mediocre this year. Were the coaching staff smart last year and stupid this year or is it on the players?

If we are a lock for a WC then I hope Gibby at the very least gives him a 2 to 3 week rest in the bullpen before the AL playoffs

This decision will be not but Gibby's, as Atkins (probably Shapiro) and few others will all have there say and collectively decide on the best solution.

Normally it doesn't work like that. Starters have to be stretched out and have a routine. Put them in the pen and you lose that. So if he goes to the pen, he stays there for the season.

That being said he put 25 pounds of muscle on in the off season. You can see he isn't the skinny kid from last year. I think he is durable enough.

1st place tie this morning. Scored 10 runs in 4 games and won 3 of 4. Great pitching, Happ with 15 wins is the ML leader.
Good review and overturned call on the Pillar slide into 3B. This allowed Travis to hit an RBI single. The first non-HR/SF RBI in 5 games since Sat!

The strikeouts are the root of this problem. From June to the AS break, we were striking out less and stringing together hits to keep rallies going, like 2015. But they seem to have regressed to swinging for the fences again as in the first quarter of the season.

Edwin hits his 30th HR, Osuna does his thing. Onto KC and looking fowrard to Liriano's start.

You are right Upton was a good player. Revere was 27 when he came here, Upton will be 32 this month. While the Revere trade was good for the Jays last year, have you seen his numbers this year? Upton has been, at best, mediocre since he left Tampa Bay. So far he has shown nothing offensively since his arrival. Hope you are right but I think this guys glory days are long gone!

Like Tulo? I kind of recall lots of guys on this board shitting all over him, and I think he is fine. I guess some may still wish Reyes was a Jay……

not like Tulo, Tulo's history said he would/should improve at the plate, and defensively he was and is awesome. Upton's numbers since he left TB have not been impressive, in Atlanta they were frigging awful. IMO he is far from the player he once was.

The Jays were very lucky to get EE back after his second release. By then he'd already started working with Robinson Cano in the off-season.

His adjustment to the American League was challenging but I never doubted Tulo. IMHO, Tulo for Reyes was like winning the lottery.
