Isn't that a bit like the Angel of Death saying he is available if needed?

Perry
Dickey always has the occasional bad start where the knuckler doesn't do what it's told and where he gives up the long ball and cannot pitch effectively. Remember the start in LA where the Jays went down 5-0 in the first and stormed back. (Of course, LAA and KC are two quite different kettles of trout). OTOH, Dickey can usually pitch very well.

They might bring him in for a couple of batters in KC.

Can't help but think if we had Cecil instead of Loup, we might be up 3-2. Specifically in game 2 when Price starts to struggle in the 7th Cecil would shutdown KC lefty batters.

Great game by Estrada. With every clutch postseason quality start he is probably increasing his annual salary by $1 million

Dickey as a reliever is interesting and scary. With no one on yeah, maybe you bring him in, depending, maybe........ with runners on base in a tight game, not a chance in hell!!!!!

Dickey is only coming this series in a mop up situation ahead of Pennington. At which point it doesn't matter. In a high leverage situation, there's about 5 guys ahead of him.

Can't believe the Mets swept Cubs after the Cubs took down the top team St.Louis Cards. The Mets had the fewest wins 90 than every other NL playoff team. Maybe it's all about the matchups in the playoffs.

Except yesterday that Dickey didn't do his job.
His job is to take the ball when asked to and to go out and do the best he can on that day. He did it, unfortunately had a bad day. Nobody goes 32-0, the top pitchers "do their job" about 3/4 of the time. Dickey has been a good pitcher for the Jays this year. I don't think there is any ML team that wouldn't take his numbers as the fourth starter. If he had "done his job", I guess that would mean 9 players in KC's batting order would be "not doing their job" ? When there is success for one side in baseball there will be failure on the other side. It has to be that way, so in each situation 1/2 the players are not doing their job.
There is also not really much to indicate that the Royals have trouble with 'slo' pitch pitchers. Estrada wasn't great in game 1, Dickey was rocked in game 4, but Estrada dominated in game 5. So, mixed results with the pitchers who don't throw hard. Certainly not conclusive enough for me.

He may have saved them more runs than he cost them but he also cost them that game. You just don't want to admit it. But that's okay, the rest of us know it.

Not dry yet!
Ah… The voice of the people !!! Let me genuflect before I apologize.

BTW-I think Russell Martin cost them that game. He had several opportunities to hit home runs and he did not do it. You just don't want to admit it, but I and all my friends, (yes, the two of us) know it.

I think the Jays have the Royals exactly where they wanted. Up 3-2 and play in front of their own fans on Friday. The Royals will play under added pressure to finish the job on Friday. Alex Rios was mentioned in post game comment last night that Estrada was 'lucky' to win the game. This could be clipboard material for the Blue Jays. They don't need to be 'lucky' to beat the hell out of Rios's team!
I am not sure if Jays can comeback all the way, though. Stroman looked like he is running out of gas. Don't forget he didn't have a full training camp. I hope I am wrong on Stro but Dickey will back him up on Saturday for sure.

And the AL has the home field advantage.

All we need is for David Price and Marcus Stroman to do their job and the Jays are in the WS. BTW: Dickey said he is available if needed.
Price has a LOT to prove on Friday and is due for an overwhelmingly good start. His reputation is squarely on the line in a free agency off season. Plus his pride. I expect him to bust KC from start to finish. Ventura can be had. My money is on the Jays to win Game #6 and then it's Marcus against Cueto!

I think Pennington will start on Saturday with Stroman to back him up. That way if Cliff struggles you can have the quick hook and a solid alternative. If you go the other way and Stroman gets lit up, Cliff is not a reliable long man.

That's because Gibby has only ever pitched him as a closer.

That better be 'Tongue-in-Cheek' humour because if it's not, you know absolutely nothing about baseball!

You have to start the weaker of the two, so if he struggles you get him out and can get quality innings from Stroman. If it goes the other way-Stroman starts and gets shelled, then Pennington doesn't last, they don't have the pithcers to keep it under 8 or 10 runs until the offense kicks in. This offfense reacts well to pressure- that's how Hutchinson went 13-2 or whatever he was. Would have been in the Cy Young mix if he hadn't been shut down.

Problem is that there are several very wise and serious [in their own esteem] posters here [and one that drinks too much] who say things like this and really mean it! :argue:

Snippet below from Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports:

TORONTO – One of these days, when he's allowed to say what he really thinks – when David Price, someone with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, doesn't have to muzzle himself, as if showing a whit of self-preservation is some sort of a sin – he'll give a better sense of his feelings about the Toronto Blue Jays' treatment of him this postseason. For now, all he offers are clipped retorts, far from the general ebullience that is perhaps his most recognizable trait. Price sounds confused. He has every right to be that, and angry, too, at how the Blue Jays have turned their best pitcher into a dancing marionette.

Price left Rogers Centre on Wednesday night with giant tooth imprints on his tongue. In the aftermath of the Toronto Blue Jays' season-saving 7-1 victory against Kansas City in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series, the focus should've been on Troy Tulowitzki's bases-clearing double and Marco Estrada neutering a Royals lineup that whacked 30 hits the previous two games and just about anything other than somebody getting up in the bullpen during the sixth inning.

Instead, the continued misuse of Price stood front and center as the series shifted back to Kansas City. There was Price, again, in a repeat of the division series, when Blue Jays manager John Gibbons inexplicably used him in relief during a game Toronto led by six runs. Price never got into Game 5 on Wednesday, spared by Kansas City's inability to create a scenario that would have goaded Gibbons into deploying him again. It got close enough that Price started getting loose in the bullpen, even as Toronto led 5-0, as setup man Aaron Sanchez and closer Roberto Osuna loomed with fresh arms, as using Price would've meant going to Marcus Stroman in Game 6 on short rest and using someone else – Price? R.A. Dickey? Cliff Pennington? – in Game 7 on even shorter rest.

Looks like Mr Passan is shit-stirring to get a little attention for himself and his column.

The Friday game might get rained out. Will they play a double header on Saturday or is that a no no in the playoffs?

I don't think there has been playoff double dip in the modern era so I assume they will avoid it like the plague.

Here
So, there is a theoretical possibility the WS could end in November or later.
Games 5, 6 and 7 are already scheduled for November.

So the theoretical possibility is that the WS could end in October!

But it will definitely not end later than November.
