They still can't get it to run smoothly. Let's see if they release a true finished product. It's OS is going to be the most updated piece of software this year!

Can you offer a link or 2 showing or stating that the playbook is not running smooth?
the videos i have seen show it running very fast and smooth. i have heard the reason for delays are that they are tweaking the OS for longer battery life and finding a good solution to run all Android apps on the Playbook.

I guess now that a date has been set, we will hear many more details soon

One of the main features is tethering with a Blackberry which opens additional features.
If you own a Blackberry this is probably the tablet you want. everyone else maybe not so much

no 3g has been announced
Many Android phones and the iPhones tether so I doubt you need a blackberry to get online with this but it does seem odd that the initial pitch was all about the web yet there is no way to get on the web with a mobile device while it's mobile..... interesting strategy.

While a few Canuks may buy this it'll be interesting to see if anyone else does.... we find out soon.

The wifi only strategy is interesting. Is it because RIM wanted to get to market sooner, and with a product competively priced to the iPad, with 3G to follow?

Or are there enough wireless devices out there already, and tethering is the preferred long term solution for when you need it?

apparently it is now confirmed
BlackBerry PlayBook Will Run Android Apps

When the long-awaited BlackBerry tablet hits the U.S. and Canada on April 19, Research in Motion (RIM) has a surprise up its sleeve: support for Android apps.

The company announced today that in addition to its new native SDK, the BlackBerry PlayBook will support apps written for Android 2.3 and BlackBerry Java. RIM also announced that it is bringing the Airplay and Unity 3 game engines to the PlayBook.

Android support on a BlackBerry-branded device is a big deal. Rumors about this sort of arrangement have been ongoing since early 2011, but it seemed an unlikely development until now. In a statement, RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis said: “The upcoming addition of BlackBerry Java and Android apps for the BlackBerry PlayBook on BlackBerry App World will provide our users with an even greater choice of apps and will also showcase the versatility of the platform.”

Will be interesting to see if Android apps that use the GPS and cameras like Layar will work. Should be doable.

although one has to wonder why anyone would buy a RIM tablet to run Android apps when they could buy an Android tablet to do that....

For the same reason that 99.99% of the people I know with blackberrys own one, BBM. I don't get it myself, but practically everyone I know with a blackberry says that they can't live without it.

I'm on a Blackberry right now and while BBM is great, there's so much more with iPhone or Android. Also there's talk about BBM coming over to iPhone and Android. I sure hope so.

That and the physical keyboard, but they seem to be hedging their bet on that.

RIM gave lower guidance yesterday, stock fell 11% on an up day... ouch. I think they'll either become an Android HW manufacturer or irrelevant - I'm betting on the latter but it will take several years.

Hey Parrot, why don't you try shutting the hell up once in a while. If you've got something productive to to add fine, but give the childish posts a rest, even if just for a few days.

Maybe you speak a different English to me. I don't even seen the word apple in there.

Almost 34,000 posts yet you have nothing to say. Pathetic.
