OK....been looking and getting lots of advice....problem is advice is from salespeople (biased). I have heard everything from "stay away from Chinese slate" (makes sense i guess), Brunswick are now cheaply made tables (from saleperson), stick to all natural rubber runners, go with the thickest slate available, etc etc. What is a good quality 4 x 8 slate table for rec room? I realize that it is probably best to stick with a mid-price range table to avoid the crap at the low end, and avoid the gold guilded accents on high end as it isnt required or needed for my purpose. That being said what is a good solid make/model in a mid price rage unit?

Thoughts and/or personal experiences are appreciated.

Thanks

As an avid Snooker & 9 Ball player I would stick to Brunswick Gold Crowns for 8/9 ball. You could find a great used table on craigslist for cheap if you're not in a rush. I would rather buy a great cond used Brunswick then one of those brand new lesser quality tables from the mall.

It also depends on how much you're into pool. If you just want to bang balls then I guess any table will do. If you're an enthusiast then a quality table is a must since every little detail will make the difference between making the ball and missing it.

Just walk into any pool hall that run's weekly tournaments and it's a good chance they'd have OLDER Brunswick's.

Also Diamond tables are great too...

I have a Brunswick Bridgeport - paid less than 4k for it delivered and installed. Great table. If I had to do it over again I would get a Gold Crown with ball return, I like the retro pool hall look, it's a gorgeous tabe - could have picked up a 9' for just over 7k and I flinched....

I remember a buddy who built his retirement home around a full size 12 foot antique table he'd acquired in his travels. His wife was very understanding and knew where she would find him more often than not.

Now that's something I would do. A nice 100 year old Burroughes and Watts table with a full bar in the background for afterwards. Heaven. I love snooker.

Older Brunswicks are the way to go. My family owned a pool hall and that was what they had, both 6x12 and 5x10.

Brunswick Anniversary tables are what I first started playing on 20 years ago. Played on them for 6 years. Great snooker tables
