I think if one got in, it might have pulled in another or two, but then with all the vote splitting, I think Biden still wins.
We will never know, but going after an incumbent and losing doesn't tend to go well for your future plans.

That would have been very difficult.
It is pretty clear there were a bunch of donors and press people who really wanted that to happen, but it looks like Biden and Harris were determined to prevent that chaos.
(I'm sure they weren't alone.)

If I recall, both Newsome and Whitmer took themselves out of the running before Biden even stepped down, so if no one was amassing the resources to make the run, nothing was going to stop Harris.

I suppose a major billionaire donor could have bankrolled someone on their own (like happens a lot on the GOP side) but in general that doesn't go so well.
