The Tulip has been around for quite a while. i was going there well before it was renovated and turned into a yuppie joint.don,t go there much anymore but when i do the steak is great. a more intimate place is Barbarians so Angel Aurora i agree with you.also Carmen,s is a great spot, less formal than Barbarians.

My colleague comes from Europe about twice a year to Toronto and his biggest requirement is for "beef on the bone". His wife is worried about Mad Cow in his homeland so he never gets beef at home. Therefore the first night here is always to go for steak. What he likes best is Brunos t-bone or rib steak done on my charcoal barbecue in the backyard with lots of garlic in it but after that we would prefer to go to the following places in order:

Carmens - before it burned down if we want garlic
Barbarians - no garlic just well prepared meat - our #1 choice at the moment
Harbour 360
Tom Jones
George Bigardis on Church
Hy's on Richmond (haven't had the problems Miranda had yet)

Don't like Ruth Chris because of the butter, it is simply too much and we have found Mortons in TO to be uneven. Mortons in Chicago is another story however.

Tulip is all about a big piece of meat but not very well prepared or presented and Keg is someplace to go when you want to save money or need a quick meal.

Just my thoughts.

The best of anything is subjective.

Presentation, preperation and atmosphere can make a chuck steak seem like it is worth 60 bucks.

And some back room in Tavern with aged beef and fresh veggies is overlooked. Base sole on subjective rerasons

Just my 2 cents

Canada or USDA Prime, cooked to perfection at my place. Reservations required and very difficult to obtain. :)

Here
I remember we had this discussion about a year ago.

One place that has not been mentioned but certainly rates among the top 3 or 4 in Toronto is the House of Chan. A bit pricey and sometimes pretentious, but very hard to get better steak elsewhere.

Winston: Lindy's is still where it always was, on the east side of Yonge just north of Gerard... or, at least it was when I last passed by about 2 months ago.

I would rate House of Chan, Harbor 60 and George Bigliardis in that order

I would vote for :
-Barbarians....da meat..mmm....excellent wine list.
-Octagon ....the lamb fluctuates, but ceasar salad, chateaubriands are always good. LF's dig the ambience.

And House of Chan is the one I really want to try.

Back home for now
The Texas longhorn on Dundas St. in Mississauga is good. They have a 30 oz steak that is great, or you can try and beat the record they have for steak eating and get your meal free...I believe the record stands at 101 oz.

While better known as a Prime Rib place, I think that The Old Scott House (across from the Scarborough Town Centre) has one of the best steaks in the city.

Morton's, Ruth Chris and Barbarians are also good. Have been disappointed at Tulip, Octagon and especially House of Chan.

I'm waiting for you....
Hamilton;

I know this is a discussion of the best steak in Toronto....However it may be worth the drive to Hamilton to check out Shakespears on Main St. E. Their steak meals are supreme.... and the service is extraordinary, I cannot rave more about this place...
