I've had as good a steak as fancy places in poll in small nondescript Peruvian or Brazillian restaurants; several along College or St. Clair. Something about those South Americans and big grilled meat.

They frequently have some type of outstanding spicy ceviche sauce with the steak, great acompaniment to the char.

Admittedly I have not been to any of the restaurants listed in your poll (except for The Keg, a place I would definitely never go back to again) but of the few places where I've had steak, none of them impressed me. Honestly, the steak that I or my mother makes is far superior.

I have been to the Octagon though once for a business dinner when the senior director for my company was visiting (although I did not have the steak), and really enjoyed the meal there. I would expect that their steak should be good.

I have been going to Carmen's for 25 years. Big loss as was Bigliardis. The Keg is not in the same league as the others. Octagon is pretty good but not technically in Toronto. For my money the best is still Ruth's Chris.

T-Bones???? Why didn't T-Bones make the cut???
Because the Gilder Boys thugs/gang who live not 100 feet away will shoot you if you walk into the place. Used to be a Wendys & a chinese food place many moons ago.

It's good to be at the top of the food chain. Anyone that voted for Ruth Chris must be American.
Ruth Cris is very good but quite expensive for what you get. The service that I have received there is second to none. Le Castille is very good but technically not in TO. One of my clients had a cut of Roast beef names after him there and the bar is really cosy. There are a lot of good places in town and I'm interested in seeing the Keg on the list as it's definitely not in the same league as most of the rest for best, but a good return on you dollar.

My vote went to the Barbarian, long history, great staff, good atmosphere and of course the food

If you don't care about ambiance the House of Chan on Eglinton may have the best steak in the city.
