hello, Terbite
I could use yelp, but you guys are more entertaining with your answers. New in call by Uptown, I neeeed the best roti shop (preferably caribbean) and a lovely steak restaurant preferably somewhere discreet, so I can go on dates.

- Roti has to be sold by itself (I make my own fillings)

Thank you

I like Bardi’s at 56 York across from Royal York Hotel. Very old style and intimate but good steaks and service.

There's Randy's up north of Cumberland on Yonge for roti. They're from Trinidad. Lots better than Ritz. Not the best roti I've had but it's good. Not many more roti places in the area. They could probably sell you the roti skins by itself. I find they don't put enough dhal in the roti. The doubles is good. Too bad Roti Palace got pushed out for condo development. They made good roti skins.

That is close to the lake. How is that remotely uptown?

I really wonder about some guys.

For Roti, I like Mitzi's on Blood near Islington.
It's a wee fast-ish food joint. Not quite uptown, more like west end, but the Roti, and Jerk are on point. Great value too, the portions are more than enough (for little old me).
Sephora Beckham mentioned a place on Eglinton, though the name escapes me, you could ask her... she's Jamaican, and probably has a better palate for Caribbean foods than this Italian ;)

yonge and sheppard area
There is David Duncan House off York Mills and Don Mills it's really good.
Wildfire at Yonge and York Mills is actually good.
Then there is Copacabana on Yonge & Eglinton which is a different type of steakhouse (Brazilian) but still good.

If you are looking for really good restaurants in that area there is Auberge De Pommier (spelling might be wrong) on Yonge just south of the 401 it's a really great restaurant and great for dates. Also Fabbrica at shops on Don Mills is awesome.

If you're looking for Jamaican Roti, just take a walk on Eglinton W from Allen to Dufferin. Apart from that Bacchus in Parkdale can't be beat, still going strong after almost 40 years.

Not uptown but I concur fully - Mitzi's is some of the very best Caribbean eats in the city. I love the oxtail but they are really known for their roti. Oddly enough their jerk is just okay for me.
