Apart from the beatbox beginning...this isn't rap by a long shot...this is ska/soca/reggae.

The best & most successfull rapper of all time is Eninem (unfortunately) with Tupac as an honourable mention.

I'll agree Eminem is pretty good, the problem with him tho is he's such a freaking whinner!!! He's done one too many of the "oh poor me" stories too many times. What I'd like to know tho is in Toy Solider, who in the heck is he talking about?

It's about the Source/Benzino, Murder Inc/Ja-Rule and 50-Cent, himself, and Dr. Dre's Aftermath record label stuff, I think

Puh-lease. Except for Mos Def and Talib Kwali, who by the way I like but their no where near Luda-WHAT! The others I don't care for. I guess it just goes to show you the many sub-sections of rap. It's like saying that Van Halen is better than MegaDeath. There both part of the Rock/Metal genre but that's where the two seperate.

Ludacris is dirty south commerciallized, while Kanye west is Chicago. Kanye West is a self proclaimed legend and I've yet to hear anything I like by him except for the cellular commercial on BET but only because ludacris is in it.

Everyone in rap seems to have a beef with one another, but to my knowledge hotlanta's finest just goes about his business and writes tunes like southern hospitality which imho is a masterpiece. I give you evidence...

All my women in the house if you chasing cash
And you got some big titties wit a matching ass
Wit ya fly ass boots or ya open toes
When ya get on the flo ni**a throw them bows
Ludacris raps about whores, money, drugs. The same thing 99% that all other rappers rap about. Listen to a Common, Mos Def, Kanye West, etc. They are so much more versatile than Ludacris.

PS You could have at least picked a good Ludacris verse to post.

So what if he raps about those things. The reference to Ludacris' lyrics being a masterpiece is tongue in cheek. However I really don't listen to rap to become educated of spiritualism or social issues. It's not the words, but how they sound when they are sung. For instance one of my favourite songs is Paul Revere by the Beasties, who by the way were fantastic back in Nov., is not litterary genius, but it sounds fantastic the way they sing it when combined with a certain rhythm. Public enemy is another good example. Although most of their stuff is a social commentary, there best and early stuff did not offer much in the way of enlightenment. Uzi weighs a Tonne, You're Gonna Get Yours(98 Oldsmobile), Cold Lampin' With Flavor. Or would you prefer My Adidas by Run Dmc. Or do you find wisdom in the song which imo started Hip Hop, Rappers Delight by sugarhill gang.

My Point is that Unless the music, rythm, and vocals sound great, who cares what the hell there rapping about. And Ludacris may not have the greatest lyrics, as per songs like Move Bitch, Act a Fool or Splash(Waterfall), they have a fresh sound thats great.

I prefer whores and escalades than hearing about someones hardship case. I'll listen to Joni Mitchell and Neil Young for that.

Trick Daddy has been around for a long time. It's just that he's only been a commercial rapper for the last couple of years.
And his best stuff is long behind him. I'm a thug was his best

And my point is that it gets a little boring when all of his songs are about the same thing, which is why artists like Kanye West, Common, Talib Kwali will always be considered better artists. Sure they rap about whores and money, but not all the time.

That's my point. He's good, but he doesn't hold a candle to the aforementioned artists when it comes to lyrical content.

So you like the lyrics, and I like the music and vocals. I think the music and vocals for Kanye West are terrible. On the other hand I love Pharrel, and other than Drop It Like It's Hot I have no idea what he's rapping about. But his voice and the music backing him are hot. I do see your point except for Eminem, I just don't think you see mine.

Best of all time

1) Biggy
2) Q-tip (Tribe Called Quest)
3) Phiffe Dawg (Tribe Called Quest)
4) Eric Sermon
5) Curtis Blow
6) GrandMaster Flash
7) Special Ed
8) Rakim
9) Slick Rick
10) LL Kool J

Biggy was by far the best ever. Within the first minute I first heard his first single "Juicy" I told my girlfriend he will go down as the best ever... I was right

I've been listening to rap for about 25 years and IMO after biggy died rap has sucked besides your odd rap here and there. I'm not into this newjack gangsta BS. As far as I'm concerned it seems to be all about selling cloths, shoes, vodka, watches etc.etc. Put it this way in 15 years no bodies going to be listening to 50, Ludacris or The Game and say.... Man, that is still one sweet rap like they do Curtis Blow and Tribe called quest.. Actually I do like Mobb Deep's beatz, some of Nas's raps and Snoop's FIRST album with Dre.

I just dont feel this gangsta shiiit, dirrty south BS and westcoast NO BASS jibberish... Even puffy had better beats that that..
