At Work......
In the west end:

Milano's (3886 Bloor Street West) or Il Paesano (396 Browns Line). The latter you can drop by if you visit Lexa. Milano's IMHO is slightly better.

Just make your own. I've been doing so for the past month and a half or so and enjoy it. In the time it takes you to go somewhere or have a pizza delivered you can make your pizza however the F you want with quality ingredients (10 min to prepare, 15-20 min to bake). You don't have to worry about stray hair, germs, booger, dirt/dust/rat droppings/cockroaches or how long that slice has been sitting on display. Cut a pizza ball in half and you can make two personal size pizzas.

Pizza in italy isn't particularly great by my measure - there are lots of tastier things to eat there (and no I'm not refering to the women, they are tastey in another way)

.
Agreed, I much perfer the pizza in Vienna and it's awesome to be able to grab a slice(ham and corn is my favorite) and a beer at 4am and jump on the tram home after a night out. As for toronto, I would recommend Pizza Flora on Roncesvalle

Wow a lot of people who have no clue :)

Libretto, hands down the best in the city. New one opening on the Danforth in a few weeks.
Queen Margarhita, close but not close enough. Very good pie.
Terroni's pizza's don't even rate, so please stop right there.
Lil' Baci, not bad, never great.
Mangia and Bevi, pretty darn good.
Pizza Pide? Horrible. Disaster.

There's no right or wrong answer on this friedrice, it's a matter of each individual's taste is, just like the many variations of toppings, some like anchoives, some don't.......... To say people have no clue is funny, each has their own experience and favourites. Good to hear everyone's opinion.

Ah, fuji-logic in pizza-land. I have a very logical and simple question for you... so what? What is the big societal comment that you wish to make by this, that we are somehow ironic individuals who have been duped? Cirque Du Soliel started off as well with such humble beginnings, and now it's owner has enough money to fly into space. I guess we should stop seeing this attraction as well.
Fuji is just trying to slice up the conversation.

I don't know if I'd ever say I find gourmet pizza as upsetting as Fuji. I can tell you that my favourite pizzas are all regular every day pizzas..

- Vesuvios on Dundas West still sells a kick ass slice of pepperoni for $2.50.. When I'm feeling cold and lonely, a slice of Vesuvio's will perk me right up...

That or a blowjob from Angel519.. (at least 2 weeks until she comes back!!!!)

Nope. Pizza began life in open air stalls being sold to passers by on the street in italy. The notion that it should be considered a gourmet food is a modern invention, one mostly back-ported to Europe from America.

In fact traditional gourmet in Italy looks down on pizza as something not deserving of a place in a restaurant with table cloths.

Pizza, like the hot dog, is a food to be enjoyed with friends while standing on your feet.
I don't know how you know this, but you're absolutely correct. Pizza is a street food to tide one over until dinner. It's Italy's equivalent of our hot dog, or the middle east's doner kabob. The best I ever had was from a farmer lady who sold hers from a local convenience store in the village next door..always piping hot, smothered with her best olive oil, redolent with garlic and onions and absolutely bloody purrrfect. All for a measely 100 lira..what a bargain.

You could say the same thing about espresso, which Italians see as a rather simple thing to be hit back ten or twelve times a day in a standing position. We took it and made it gourmand-y, and elevated it to a level where Italy actually disappoints when it comes to espresso. North Americans have perfected it.

Same with pizza. Which is why the places like Libretto that take it very seriously but also keep it simple are the real deal. But sure, any good pizza, however dressed up or down, makes us happy.

Speaking from my palate, for thick crust Camarra's, been going there for about 35 years and still great.
I went to Camarra's last weekend. I had not been for 35 years. Yep - still great. I won't wait 35 years before I go again.

BIG Slice Pizza? i've heard a lot of people talk about it being so great. My buddy swears by it and he's a big foodie kinda guy so i usually take his word for it. I been there once and it was so-so. then again i was there at 3am after clubbing so the slices were pretty old but i have to admit it was definitely a big slice... im really not a pizza guy anyway.

Dundas and Ossington. Awesome neapolitan pizza. Thin crust wood fired

I'm very very close to management there.... Very good people whove put their heart and soul into their business. When they first opened there were line ups around the block every night and they've been on tons of "best of" lists since opening.

A second location is opening on the Danforth soon.

And (believe it or not). I'm a big fan of Fresh Slice. It's so cheap but very tasty and not greasy.

Ask Rocco to re-open Silver Spoon. That was a great restaurant.
