So somebody just started a thread on best burger joints. Sometimes when I'm in Toronto I like to order up a pie, but never know what the best places are. I tried Pizza Nova last time as someone told me it was good, and while it was adequate, I wasn't all that impressed.
So, best pizza in downtown TO? Mostly interested in delivery, but dine-in opinions are appreciated as well!

Seriously Camarra on Dufferin makes a decent pizza not cheap
Olympic pizza near Welesley if its still there...

Of the chains Pizza Nova is my favorite...

Actually, good point Rub. I don't really care about thick and gooey vs thin and...non-gooey. I just care about quality, which in my mind equates to taste. If it's really thin and tastes great, but I'm still hungry after a couple slices, hell, I'll just eat more.
BTW, thanks for the suggestions so far.

Once in a while I'll have one of the weird slices at Pizzaiolio(sp?). Fresh interesting toppings on a dozen or more pies ready to heat up a slice . Pretty good for a snack.
I like them, too. The problem with prepared slices is that you can never be sure of getting something fresh. Same for Alberto's.

For delivery, I'd always pick a mom&pop neighbourhood place over a chain.

Downtown, Pizza Gigi (you want drugs with that?) is the only decent place that I'm familiar with. I've heard good things about Massimo's and Vesuvio's.

Farther north, I always used to like Dave's Pizza at St Clair & Christie, nice pie. However, it's been a couple of years since I've tried them.

Closer to Dufferin/401, I'd try Camarra's. They're an institution in that part of the city.

My vote for the BEST pizza in Toronto has to go to -Pizza Rustica located near Wellington St/Blue Jays Way...

The BEST pizza I've ever had is certainly Lombardi's Pizza in New York City!

It's Pizzaiolo, not bad though, I'm impressed for a wannabe wop, lol.

Speaking from my palate, for thick crust Camarra's, been going there for about 35 years and still great. Thin crust, Vesuvío's on Dundas in the west end, however must admit haven't been there in a while, heard rumours they're a notch below from where they use to be. Heard good things about Libretto.

Sorry to tell you guys, but chain pizza is garbage, knew someone who owned a franchise and everything is not fresh, but shipped in.

Libretto and Queen Margarita compete head to head as the best pizza in town.

Based on what criteria and who's poll? If you do an internet search the most common name that comes up as the best pizza in TO is Terroni.

For gourmet pizza I'd agree with Terroni. I have not sampled every gourmet type pizza in Toronto, but they do make a great pizza.

I am going to say though that I am not really a big fan of gourmet pizza. Pizza is comfort food, best enjoyed a little drunk with a group of friends, and for me, for that purpose, nothing beats Pizza Nova. So sue me for citing a chain--pizza was not meant to be fancy, and Pizza Nova makes a great basic pizza.

Like a hot dog, pizza is best enjoyed while standing, not seated, and attempts to turn it into gourmet deserve some small measure of ridicule.

Haven't tried the gourmet ones mentioned like Dante's. I live near Vesuvio's but never tried. Expensive too.

Bite your tongue, great pizza is a gourmet dish in many parts of Italy, it was never invented to be eaten with a case of 24, that's a North American thing, in Italy a fine gourmet pizza is eaten with a flavourable glass of wine or two, lol.

Nope. Pizza began life in open air stalls being sold to passers by on the street in italy. The notion that it should be considered a gourmet food is a modern invention, one mostly back-ported to Europe from America.

In fact traditional gourmet in Italy looks down on pizza as something not deserving of a place in a restaurant with table cloths.

Pizza, like the hot dog, is a food to be enjoyed with friends while standing on your feet.
