I used to be a big fan of Rodney's Oyster Bar - but it seems to have lost its appeal lately. Kind of beginning to feel like a Red Lobster chain.

I tried 'Starfish' this weekend. It was amazing! I give it ***** for any oyster lovers out there.

Have you tried Oyster Boy on Queen West? I haven't, but heard it was good. Let us know.

Why not? I have been to oyster bar on Queen west many a times. I actually prefer it to Rodney's but again, to me Rondey's lost alot of it's appeal when they moved......

I agree Rodneys has lost a little of its oomph..
Starfish is awesome-both the oysters and fresh gish are primo!and there wine list is Very well priced-I think they only add about 20-25% to LCBO prices.
Oyster boy is great for take out-rolo

You could try The Whistling Oyster. It's on Peter or Duncan, I believe.

I haven't been to Rodneys since it changed location, and have heard similar comments like above more than a few times.

Are the shells quality/selections there not as good as before? Different crowds, bad interior ? What the deal ?

the atmosphere at rodney's seems to have changed. the service used to be top-notch... but now you can wait forever for the server to take your order ... and the last time i was there i got 'attitude' from one of the servers [if i wanted attitude, i would go to queen west!] and the menu is predictable.

i read about starfish in a james chatto article. the oysters were plump, juicy and mouth watering. beyond anything i had experienced before ...

If you don't mind a place thats a little Scarboroughish (crowd wise), the restaurant below street level at King West and Simcoe, below The Elephant & Castle is a pretty good deal. Not bad choice, reasonable price and was given a free 1/2 doz after my 1 doz order.

I think the new restaurant on King West, named Blow Fish, has oysters, The sushi is, however, very good but very pricy. But...oh the mix....very shi shi crowd. Its smok'in baby.

New restaurants are opening...constantly. Keep in mind that "Top 10" lists are probably 6 months old plus by the time it goes to print.

i forgot to mention my theory on men who eat oysters ...

based on personal experience, i have found that men who enjoy oysters tend to be orally gifted ... sigh ...

Absolutley Whistling Oyster is a good spot. Plus I believe it's been around for a while and they try to maintain a good rep in quality dining.
