Merry XMas everyone. Some relatives from New York are visiting over the holidays. The last time they were here, the husband went on and on and on about New York having the best Lobster and Alaskan King Crab. Took him to Mandarin Restaurant and other seafood restaurant around the Pickering area but they served Snow crab.

This guy really pisses me off and if he was not married to blood relative, I would kick him to the curve.
Can anyone help me find a great restaurant where I can get King Crab around the GTA. I want to show this guy that Toronto is just as good if not better than New York.

That is a huge task... New York is one of the truly great restaurant cities in the world... like Paris or Rome.

The best of Toronto's best is excellent, but compared to NY, Paris and Rome is only very good.

I think you will just have to learn to live pissed off!

The best lobster in Toronto used to be The Lobster Trap, but that was a long time ago... or The House of Chan, but that is now closed...

Probably the best today is to be found at Rodney's on King Street West or Diana's on Lawrence Avenue East.

The Chase restaurant on Temperance should shut the guy up. But it is much pricier than the Mandarin.

I wouldn't even bother . No matter where you take him it will not be good enough . If he contiues to say some thing then simply ask him " Are you here to visit us or eat lobster ? ".

Lobster and King Crab galore here. it's a Chinese restaurant in a Chinese area but very western friendly. The main walls have lobster and king crab tanks floor to ceiling. You get your pick before they cook it. They have up to 10 lb lobsters. I'd highly recommend for a memorable and unique seafood experience without breaking the bank. Great for groups. Get there early or you'll be lining up outside. They only take reservations for groups of 6 or more, everyone else is first come first serve. Note they serve real Shark fin soup here; in case that's a problem for you.

Diana's is very good too for a smaller, quieter setting. Been there a few times.

Lobster Royale in Richmond Hill is also great, I've dined there often, family run with top notch quality lobster and crab, but the décor is from the 80's. Not a place to go to impress someone.

Rodney's is good for oyster, not lobster. I think for the price of the lobster meal, in terms of value, I better get myself some KFC fried chickens.

Boiled lobster with garlic butter is just as good in NYC, Montreal, GTA or Timbuctoo if it is fresh. I have never been a big fan of frozen crab legs. About 5 years ago there was sort of like a price war amoung the Chinese restaurants. Many were offering Ginger fried lobster for $10. If you have never had lobster this way it is a must try. Order it with several other dishes, the thing with Chinese ginger fried lobster is that it is something that is fantastic along with other good plates and it does not dominate your meal.

Can't vouch for their lobster but I still like the steamed crab legs (alaska king) at the Trap.

The best lobsters are in China town...Pick your lobster and have it cut to pieces. Order with ginger. The best lobsters ever. Been to Boston & New York. Toronto kills both cities.

Fishmans Clubhouse Steeles w of Brimley, get the lobster mountain. Garlic lobster piled high like a mountain, it is great. The place is all asian so language is dicey but if you know what you want then you are good to go.
They bring the lobster to you then cook it and bring it back, it is pricey but delicious.

Lobster Royal on Yonge just north of Steeles is great. It's in a plaza right next to Red Lobster. Almost a spitting image of the Lobster Trap. Both do Lobster and King Crab very well.
