Sean Penn
Agree with Sean Penn... He's a VERY intense actor. He researches his roles more than any other actor, and totally "lives" within the role he portrays. I saw a thing the producers made (one of those extra's you get on DVD/ BR's), in which he LIVED at the mentally handicapped home in order to get into character for his portrayal of Sam Dawson, in I Am Sam.

I still say he should have won the Oscar that year for his portrayal.

Put a good comedy actor in a non comedic role and you can have an intense performance.. I am thinking of Jim Carrey in The Number 23 or Robin Williams in One Hour Photo. With the right actor that extra edge of energy a good comedic actor has can be channeled really well to bring intensity to a movie.
totally agree, good call.

Gary Oldman. He was amazing in True Romance and also as the dirty cop in Leon.

Ryan Gosling, Jason Strathan they are great new comers!
Sorry eldo but Nicolas Winding Refn should have stuck with Tom Hardy, Gosling would have been grossly miscast as Bronson.

Edward Norton and Russell Crowe's skinheads make for interesting comparisons. Norton's Derek repents but is haunted by the error of his ways. Crowe's Hando never does and appears omnipotent, but he's stripped of his power and ends up being a petty psychopath.
