It had a great all-star supporting cast that really made that movie work. And I saw plenty of the military mentality/thinking in that movie in the Army and at Ft Ding-a-Ling in New Jersey....Not his best work.

Watch it again. Notice he uses just about every racial slur in the book except for nigger. For that political correctness he still remains Unforgiven in my books. Don't get wrong there was good in the movie but also the bad and the ugly. Took away from a true Magnum Force of the movie.I thought "GRAN TORINO" was excellent and appreciated the lack of POLITICAL CORRECTNESS and refreshing honesty. I have always liked "THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY" as a cult classic. There are many Clint movies worthy of distinction. The list goes on.......
Would you like the dialogue to be sanitized? The whole point of the movie was he played a flawed character, harboring deeply rooted racial suspicion and hostility, and his character arc involved him starting to see beyond his cynicism and prejudice. That catharsis is the heart of the movie.Watch it again. Notice he uses just about every racial slur in the book except for nigger. Sutherland, Rickles, and Savalis (in that order) made that movie.
Not his best work.
He directed BOMC... his best work as director was Bird. Acting, I like Unforgiven and Good, Bad & the Ugly.I liked the one with the orangutan best, probably The Good, The Bad and The Ugly next.
He wasn't in Bridges Of Madison County, that was Redford.
That was really a Richard Burton flick.Where Eagles Dare.... gets my vote
Sutherland and Savalis had just finished The Dirty Dozen and were up and coming stars. Rickles was well known at that time as a comedian. By far, Sutherland was the worse actor in Kellys Heros, he was trying too hard to portray a different character than his role as Pinkly in the Dirty Dozen. Sutherland got two breaks in the Dirty Dozen. He was originally an unknown extra there just to fill out the dozen guys.Sutherland, Rickles, and Savalis (in that order) made that movie.
Technically speaking, you may be right about this choice, but I recently bought a Dirty Harry anniversary DVD.The movie that displayed an entirely different character! The bridges of Madison County. With all of his tough guy roles, this, for me, was a risky venture; it didn't hurt that Meryl Streep was the leading lady.
