On electric it has to be Jaco and Jaco alone. After him, nobody played bass the same as before. Major nods to James Jamerson too.

On upright? Mingus, Paul Chambers, Milt Hinton, NHOP, Ray Brown.

I hope a few of you read this...

watch this movie if u can "standing in the shadows of motown"

Anthony Jackson... Mark king and most of other bassist's were impressed from larry graham.. imagine playing just playing one line in most songs and leaving u amazed cause he made that line sound so different each time he played it... back in the day larry and his mom could not afford a drummer so he actually drummed on his bass (which is called slap bass) yes Mark king did improve upon in introducing speed (1/16th of a note),

Abraham laboriel, Melwin Davis, Val Johson (kenny G's Bassist), Nathan East
are all good bassist's (Val Johson is a young one) but once again look at your old collection of music from the 70's and 80's u will find them there.. now most of these wonderfull bassists are studio musicians.

best bassist mmmmmmmmmm overall Anthony Jackson only because hes the most experienced one out there both live and in studio although i would like Nathon east.

Gets my vote for best living bassist too.

Jaco Pastorius definitely the top guy although no longer among us.

Great new album "Thunder" ? I think it's called has three of the best:

Stanley Clarke, Vic Wooten and Marcus Miller playing together as SVM

surprised Marcus wasn't mentioned earlier, but he's in a class to play
with Stanley and Vic
