I was surprised to see Australian Michelle Jenneke still competing in the hurdles. You might remember she went viral over ten years ago for her bouncing, jiggling warm-up routine at the line. She thus caught the eye of Sports Illustrated. Unfortunately, she took a tumble in the qualifiers and still ran the repechage with the resulting injury. Her smile and enthusiasm is infectious.

I missed the sad story of Heptathlete Chari Hawkins (USA). It seems someone always misses their three attempts at the high jump or pole vault. Then mathematically they have no shot at a medal no matter how well they do in other events. She did pick herself up and finish the Heptathlon.
