There's been a long sordid history in cartoons and comics of sexual innuendo (sometimes very explicit) and sexual references.
From Disney movies to DC comics there's been an ongoing awareness of thinly disguised sex references. For many, they weren't originally obvious. But over the years, it can become amazing that they weren't immediately obvious.
There is, for instance, the famous (or infamous) scene in Peter Pan where Captain Hook is trying to evade the jaws of the crocodile. He's hanging by his hook off a ledge and the alligator is snapping at him from below. The croc first bites him in the ass and manages to pull his pants off. This leaves the good Captain with only his little underpants on. The Captain has remarkably long and thin legs and by spreading them wide he keeps the crocodile's jaws apart, but that doesn't stop the croc's tongue. In a very quick scene (check for yourselves, the crocodile's tongue reaches out to flick at Captain Hooks underwear covered jewels.
Of course, much has been made about Peter Pan's sexuality - there aren't many obviously gayer characters out of Disney.
On the comics side, I certainly won't be the first to mention why wealthy, single, playboy, Bruce Wayne, goes out of his way to have an teen boy live with him - who happens to be named "Dick". There's innuendo enough in that.
But Batman comics themselves have frequently been laced with gay sex innuendo. Thought you'd enjoy some samples:
