It was a joke. WTF do you think you read?
TBH, with some of the outrageous things that get posted, sometimes it can be difficult to tell which ones are serious and which ones are joke. Guess you got me.

I totally get it but man it sucks if you're the company to lose an established brand name like that. Gunna cost 'em big bucks!
Prolly not. I imagine that they can come up with an effective and sensitive ad campaign to inform people of whatever their new branding will be.

Or at least any white person who doesn't feel guilty about thinking people with different skin colours or cultures inferior.
Can we consider cultural characteristics inferior? Like treating wives and daughters like chattel for one. It seems like the world dealt with that cannibalism thing pretty well.

I suppose it is the history that matters. In NYC we had Sylvias soul food and her pic is on the canned or jarred versions of her products. And, she was the owner (i believe deceased).

The ultimate parent company of the Aunt Jemima brand is Pepsico. I suspect they will try to relaunch another syrup, but the loss of the brand will likely cost a few hundred million in sales. This is of course a rounding error at Pepsico.

This is good news, bad news. The bad news is the other brands in question Uncle Ben's, Mrs. Butterworth's, etc. are owned by giant food conglomerates. The good news is they can afford to take these brands off the shelves.

We shouldn't be consuming high fructose corn syrup anyways. Ban the whole product completely.
Right. And while we're at it all beer, wine, and hard liquors should be banned as well! Equally, if not more, harmful, and not just to the person drinking them...

Buy genuine Canadian maple syrup. I don't no if it's healthier, but it makes me happy.

Yes that's a world class product! If I'm going syrup - which is rare- that's the way to go enjoy the best!

There was toothpaste brand called Darkie complete with a black man in a top hat. You can find them in Asian supermarkets. Obviously, they renamed the toothpaste Darlie and changed the package.

Quaker Oats Replaces Historically Racist Aunt Jemima Mascot With Black Female Lawyer Who Enjoys Pancakes Sometimes

CHICAGO—In response to nationwide protests regarding police brutality and racial discrimination, food conglomerate Quaker Oats announced Friday that after 130 years, it would replace its historically racist Aunt Jemima mascot with a black female lawyer who enjoys pancakes from time to time. “The time has come to replace Jemima, a problematic and stereotypical character that originated in minstrel shows, with Sheila, the public defender of cultivated tastes who eats pancakes on occasion, in addition to a variety of other foods,” said Quaker spokesperson Aaron Parshley, who explained that the former Aunt Jemima brand of syrups and pancake mixes would now bear a logo depicting an African American woman who wears a suit, carries a briefcase, and isn’t an aunt per se, though she is godmother to the child of a dear friend she met as an undergraduate at Dartmouth College. “Our new mascot is based on several real-life black women who are lawyers and eat pancakes some mornings when they aren’t too busy litigating on behalf of the disadvantaged. While Sheila does enjoy our extended line of breakfast foods, that is only one small facet of her rich and complex identity as a human being: Sheila also speaks fluent Italian, likes U2, is bisexual, and enjoys cross-country skiing. Let us make it clear that Sheila never serves the pancakes herself, but now and then goes to a diner near the courthouse where waitresses and waiters of a variety of races serve them to her.” At press time, Mars Inc. announced it would follow suit by replacing the mascot of its Uncle Ben’s brand with a black engineering graduate student.

Wait......news update.......it turns out Sheila likes to sleep with metrosexual white males with an occasional blue collar white male thrown into the mix. Quaker Oats is now looking for a more suitable representation of black womanhood. Scratch "hood" make that black womanliness.

The Chinese translation is "black man toothpaste " . That hasn't changed on the packaging despite being renamed Darlie.

I mean, come on... it was always racist. One of those things you look at in 2020 and go "oh yeah - they never changed that, did they"?

On a side note - ever notice no American restaurants ever have maple syrup? They seriously think carmel-coloured corn syrup is... syrup. I mean even IHOP stopped even carrying maple syrup.

In the spirit of equality and tolerance, and in the context of the current BLM movement, you should change your handle immediately. The term Kracker is racially insensitive to poor, disadvantaged whites, and sends blacks and POC the wrong message that you endorse the legacy of whip-cracking white supremist slave-owners. ?

Real maple syrup is expensive to produce. You need a boil a whole lot of maple sap to make a tiny bit of maple syrup. Not cost effective for most restaurants to offer the real thing.
