I'm watching it but I see shit lol!
Yeah, there wasn't much in the way of visuals, just a small streak across the telescope field... it happened pretty fast and wasn't very large. Still, I thought the discussion was pretty good, interesting information presented in an accessible way. :)

How's this one?

"Her curves described parabolas that would cause cardiac arrest in yak......."

Actually, your sexy feminine curves make my heart beat so fast! And, they have nothing whatsoever to do with yak!
Better keep a defibrillator nearby, just in case. ;-) Ah, Woody, I wish he was still with us... I mean, I know he's still with] us, but he's not really with us anymore, you know? *coughSoonYicough* :-(

The Lower Deck, The liquor Dome, Cheers, The Old Triangle,Reflections,Your fathers Moustache, Economy Shoe Shop, and the list goes on and on and on.....if that does nothing for you a nice walk along the Halifax Waterfront listening to the sounds of the ocean..very well lit and safe...take a ride on the Ferry......check out a set at the casino....wonderful little intimate dining areas....try La Cave....wonderful town..and night life too....great memories
At least in the Summer I've even seen amazing sights at the Five Fishermen Restaurant.
Thanks, I'll keep those places in mind... I'll probably go out later in the week, and Tuesday nights are slow in pretty much every city. Thanks for the suggestions! :)

wow...those rockets could have fed a couple of million folks in starving third world countries for a lot of years. gotta love the priorities of the good old U.S.
That's an idiotic thing to say. Those 'third world' countries would do well to show the initiative that the 'good old U.S' had!

I went to that site, but after the countdown to zero, I realized it was not the actual site. The link to the actual site was scripted, but it wasn't an HTML hot link (why for an astronomy site, I don't know).

So I went to that site, and still saw SFA, lol.

Oh well.

The USA and its taxpayers have no obligation to feed anyone elses population.

Not even the Soviet Union back in the day would've fed Africa, despite their system of wealth re-distribution which probably is more to whitewaterguy's liking.

The USA and its taxpayers have no obligation to feed anyone elses population.
however they do feel obligated to have military bases occupying over 191 countries around the world

US Military Bases in foreign countries, are mainly located in Western Europe: 26 of them are in Germany, 8, in Great Britain, and 8 in Italy. There are nine military installations in Japan (Wikepedia).

In the last few years, in the context of the GWOT, the US haa built 14 new bases in and around the Persian Gulf.

It is also involved in construction and/or or reinforcement of 20 bases (106 structured units as a whole) in Iraq, with costs of the order of 1.1 billion dollars in that country alone (Varea, 2007) and the use of about ten bases in Central Asia.

The US has also undertaken continued negotiations with several countries to install, buy, enlarge or rent an addional number of military bases. The latter pertain inter alia to installations in Morocco, Algeria, Mali, Ghana, Brazil and Australia (See Nicholson, B., 2007), Poland, Czech Republic (Traynor, I., 2007), Ouzbekistan, Tadjikistan, Kirghizstan, Italy (Jucca, L., 2007) and France.

Washington has signed an agreement to build a military base in Djibouti (Manfredi, E., 2007). All these initiatives are a part of an overall plan to install a series of military bases geographically located in a West-East corridor extending from Colombia in South America, to North Africa, the Near East, Central Asia and as far as the Philippines (Johnson, C., 2004). The US bases in South American are related to the control and access to the extensive natural biological , mineral and water resources resources of the Amazon Basin.

So very true, they are only involved when there's something in it for themselves.

Why should the U.S. be the only one to sacrifice science or it's technological priorities to eradicate poverty or famine in Africa, when aid might end up in corrupt hands, or require costly military intervention to enforce it? What makes you think that they can cultivate more food to eradicate famine in Africa where birth rates are not even controlled?

I think your criticism of space exploration is simplistic and perhaps irrelevant. Even when you know that such budgets have been drastically curtailed, or costs significantly lowered using high-tech satellites and robotics to continue such exploration, the plight of Africans endures.
the ideals and vision of space exploration themselves are simplistic, delusional and irrelevant. to suggest the intentions of a megalomanical society can be equated with the pursuit of "science" is a far stretch. It's government funded science for the benefit of government, exactly as in the cold/war space race scenario. Ethical scientists are spending their time devoted to solving human issues here on the planet. I know quite a few Canadian Phd. dudes with physics degrees who are working in the U.S...Where? On military basis..bettering the cause of mankind....right

Science with a government/military/global control agenda is unethical science to say the very least.., Particularly when done in the name of space exploration, gimme a break. Our IQ's didnt land us on this planet and our IQ's quite clearly wont get us off it either. We are more likely to self destruct as a species before that day ever arrives. But, who amongst us who engage in any critical thinking still have faith in the clusterfuck known as the U.S.?? who's Koolaide are ya drinkin?
