The only thing constraining Apple's growth is it's supply chain - it's MAc line competes with boring commodity black plastic boxes, it's phones are on top, they don't have a credible iPod or iPad competitor, they have been able to monitize the on-line apps business, they own the music business.......

If they'd add a cover (just like a netbook) and a usb/mouse/keyboard ports, it'd be a pretty good machine. Still overpriced but closer.

You're so oblivious Woodie, I was referring to you, just like Pavlov's dogs.
LOL!
Your getting pretty Pavlovian yourself!
Didn't know you were such a Mac fanboi since your return after your long absence.
Looks like you are making up for lost time!....

So all those past comments calling me a 'fanboi' and 'brainwashed' and such was just you wanting to see your words in print. You can't even remember what you write. Like I said totally oblivious and I'll add self absorb. your long term memory is really going downhill. It's time to loosen your 3 finger grip a bit and adjust your meds.

And still no legit competitor release date in sight.. I'm still amazed how slow other companies are to react. I guess if they can't bring anything interesting to the table they'll just keep building generic devices.

Windows 7 "Slate 500" Appears on HP's Website

HP's Windows 7-based Slate is dead and buried, right? That's what we thought too, but if the project is truly dead, HP didn't bury it very deep. Some astute grave diggers over at IDG News dug up what we used to know as the HP Slate and now dubbed "Slate 500."

Perhaps HP just hasn't gotten around to updating its website yet, but if you go here and scroll down, you'll see several HP Slate 500 models about halfway down the page (we counted eight different SKUs). And that isn't the only place the Slate 500 appears. Apparently the thing's been Energy Star certified (see here).

Falling in line with earlier speculation about the hardware, the Windows 7-based Slate 500 is listed as an 8.9-inch tablet sporting an Intel processor clocked at 1.6GHz, 1GB of system memory, and both a front-facing and rear-mounted camera.

We'll update this as we find out more, but if this was a Myth Busters episode, we'd have to label the chances of the Slate 500 and recently announced PalmPad co-existing as "plausible.

Obviously, given previous rumors, this listing sparked quite a bit of discussion. Responding to questions about the HP Slate and whether or not it was still alive, HP this morning confirmed that the device is still on the road to production. Engadget cites a HP representative as saying the Slate is "in customer evaluations now" and HP "will make a determination soon on the next steps."

Lenovo Jumping on the Android Tablet Trend

Chinese computer manufacturer Lenovo Group Limited announced Wednesday that it is currently working on a tablet that will use Google's Android mobile platform. Lenovo spokeswoman Wu Hwa said that it's using Android because the company want the device--currently dubbed as LePad--to compliment the LePhone smartphone which also uses the Android platform.

Currently the tablet is slated for a Q4 2010 release--roughly the same time period many PC manufacturers plan to ship tablets. However Wu made it clear that Lenovo hasn't set a solid launch date, and that the actual name may change before it goes retail.

Liu Jun, senior vice president for Lenovo Group and president for Lenovo Product Group, added to the announcement, saying that the LePad will "echo" the LePhone in functions like web browsing and email. The device is also seen as a crucial part of the company's overall mobile Internet strategy in a 3G era.

Both Hwa and Jun did not provide additional details regarding the upcoming tablet such as hardware specs and Android versions. More info should become available within the next few months.

Lenovo's LePhone--launched in China back in April--uses Android 2.1, and is expected to arrive in other "emerging" markets. Currently it's unknown if the LePad will also focus on the Chinese market.

is 3.27 million iPads really that impressive? available since April, and having the whole market to themselves it doesn't really sound that great. Everyone is expecting the tablet market to explode, but it seems everyone is waiting for alternatives.
I would have thought with zero competition numbers would be much higher...
