I've dropped in the past two weekends to pick up some blank media (DVD's) and other advertised specials, only to find them not in stock.

They even have a huge sign at the end of the aisle...but the product below it is not the advertised item. It's like bait and switch.

And when I ask one of the commissioned sales people, they just point me to another aisle or to ask someone else. I suspect, they only get commission on high ticket items like computers or appliances.
The one sales guy that was helpful, told me they never received any from the warehouse.

While BestBuy is owned by the same, they're sales staff is at least non-commissioned and a bit more helpful.

You see, the mistake you made is, next time you go to this store, you have to arrive holding a baseball bat in one hand and a shotgun in the other. They ALWAYS give great customer service if you do. Always worked for me!!

considering i worked for SHIT BUY not too long ago, part time, ill tell you this, the warranties are pushed by both stores.
shit buy, tends to exaggerate the truth about the manufacturers warranties, so thatll entice the customer to buy a PSP (performance serivce plan)...
load of shit, they pressured us more than future shop people, because they had incentive, they were on commission.
dont buy into that, "we're not on commission and were here to help" shit.
when management wasn't around, id always tell the customer NOT to buy it and buy the products on their visa, mastercard or american express card, because they would give any product you bought on it, an extra year warranty, call your credit card and find out.
i hated that they indirectly asked us to lie to customers.
also, monster cable, the brand they push most on customers, is a load of shit to...fancy packaging for nothing, acoustic research cables will be just fine.
monster cable products are marked up 50%
so what cost the customer $100 for a pair of cables, cost employees $50, hence they wanted us to push it on customers as well.
http://www.bestbuysux.org <-read the employee side =)

little bit of inside info, if you're ever in the store and you see the guy at the computer, checking for stock and/or prices
look at the lower left part of the screen, you'll see some numbers, that's the cost of the product ie-14584 = $145.84
if you want some bargaining leverage ;)

At the range!!!
Futureshop displays the employee commission right on the price tags; They are veiled with a letter and extra numbers...but it's there. The next time I go I will copy an example and post it. As you would guess the sales people will tell you that the items with the highest commission are the best products.

Wherever work requires me....
I work for a major supplier to both Future Shop and Best Buy. We are given very straight forward instuctions to supply the minimum stock levels on low cost sale items. Get em in the store and upsell.

When I purchase big ticket items I say the following to the sales rep.

" I want this item and am going to buy it. You mention an extended warranty and I walk. While in line the rep mentions the warranty and I walk, saying I yold you so."

Then it's off to the next store and the scenario repeats itself. Works for me...

I was in futureshop the other day i noticed how i was completely ignored by the sales staff until i started to check out the laptops. I've always preferred Best Buy since there staff actually seem helpful and just don't hover around the big ticket items. But i didn't know that they weren't paid commission like the future shop staff so that might explain why they don't hover as much.

They single handedly put similar companies out of business (like Multitech, Adventure Eletronic, ect.). Competative prices, online accessability, longer return periods, plentyful locations have made them industry leaders. With Best Buy as a "fake competitor" (which they are not), FS are here to stay. It's natural for people to hate the biggest heavy hitters around (Dell, Microsoft, ect.)

When I was in the market for a laser printer there was a sales rep for HP in the printer section at Bestbuy. He actually recommended that I not buy a HP product simply b/c it wasn't what I was looking for. That guy had credibility and I would buy from him in a heartbeat.

Which is like saying KFC and Pepsico are the same company.
Not necessarily, since BB and FS sell the same things to the same customer, but I get what you mean.

The sales reps product knowledge are good for crap. They're only good to help me find where its located in the store & if they have any in stock. I know what I want to buy & will buy it if the price is right. Don't ever rely on their product knowledge answers.

BB and FS? And an extended warranty? Bait and Switch? Maybe this post should be in the escort section.

Au contraire. The rep I was talking to was incredibly knowledgeable and gave me the ins and outs of laser printers. But he wasn't an employee of BB, he was a HP rep who I assume had been provided to BB.

But no, I wouldn't trust the knowledge of some BB/FS kid rep who doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground.

Future Shop staff have no knowledge on products and especially computers and parts.
i wanted to purchase a HardDrive that was on sale way below the best price Canada Computers could do. The clerk asked what computer i was going to be putting it into and when i told him a PowerMac G5 ...... his only answer was sorry but i don't think this HD supports Apple computers and that with Macs there is no way you can open them to upgrade the drive. he then went on to try and sell me a Windows XP Home computer and that if was going o be running any sort of Unix software ( as i had discussed with him prior) i would need to running Windows?????? I just told him to give me the drive and shut up.......

yet another B&S cashgrab scam.

those alleged extended warranties are just another cash-grab scam to make extra bucks. dont fall for it, dont tolerate them being rude and well... if they sucked, they'd be at least useful for something. find an independent vendor you like who knows what they're doing and stick with them. [note2futureshop; "warranty" does not mean "f%@k you buy a new one"]

that Future shop makes their employees push those extended warranties to the point of annoyance. Some of the sales people become downright rude when you say no to the extra warranty. I hate the place.
