I mother suffers from RLS and has tried almost everything. The prescription medication was too much. The side effects make you dream crazy things. She sleeps for 1-2 hours thru the night. Doctor won't prescribe sleeping pills. She exercises everyday. Eliminated caffeine and tried some sleeping teas.

Anybody have any luck with this?

My mom suffered from this too for years and it kinda went away in its own in her case.

Certain kinds of pop helps, ginger ale helps. I get it sometimes at night and it prevents me from sleeping..

Besides prescription medications has she ever considered acupuncture . RLS seems to be difficult to treat.

P.S. I am experiencing restless middle leg syndrome due to the lock down.

I have this too and it's a bitch. Mine is caused because of my drinking problem.

I have it too and probably for the same reason. Ive found massage really helps and least temporarily, stretching works too.

Not exactly the same and apologies for being slightly off topic but who wakes up with cramps in their calf or calves even (double is a bitch) and more recently in my feet, which aren't nearly as bad. The absolute worst, which I fortunately get much less than the others is on my inner thigh and runs from just above my knee to close to my groin. They are excruciating and last significantly longer. I've seen commercials from the States for "Theraworks". Not sure it it's effective.

You may have an electrolyte imbalance. You may be low in magnesium, sodium and potassium. I used to get these calf cramps and occasionally in my feet. I even have had them in the muscle in the front of my shin that pulls up the foot. Try stretching that out in the middle of the night! I used to have these cramps after I had heavy workout with 1/2 hour riding the bike at the gym. These completely stopped after I drank my homemade electrolyte drink after the workout. Gatorade has the same effect but the sugar content is super high.

I get leg cramps too. Used to be only calf cramps, and only one at a time (Thank God!). Usually happens in the middle of the night when I guess I probably stretch out my leg in my sleep, which triggers it. Of course I wake up instantly, and hopefully am able to jump out of bed, stand up, and put my weight on the cramping leg. If I am fast enough that stops the cramp immediately. But if I'm not fast enough it's 12/10 pain for at least 60 seconds, where when I was married I had to clench my teeth to keep from screaming out loud and waking up the whole house. Also if I can't stop it immediately I will have a sore calf muscle that will hurt for at least the first 10 minutes of walking, especially if going up or down stairs.

The other cramps you describe started about 6 months ago, and I have found no way to instantly relieve them. Also foot arch cramps, that can actually be brought on by a foot massage. The foot cramp I can fix by getting off the massage table and standing on that foot. The lower leg cramp that I have sometimes experienced during a massage is more of a dull ache, and it helps if I get up and walk around, but it will last at least a couple of minutes. Same with the upper thigh cramp, which is more rare, and which I just have to ride out. Sometimes if I myself massage my upper thigh it helps ease the cramp, but it does last several minutes at least.

Interestingly, the frequency of all types of these cramps has decreased significantly since I stopped hobbying in the current circumstances.

Nonetheless I think I'll try Miss Croft's magnesium suggestion...

Recipe please.....
I get the inner thigh cramps, sometimes both legs which feel like the muscles are trying to pull out of their sockets or whatever they are attached to. Just the slightest bad move and it can start. Lasting up to an hour.Used to be a product called "crampex" from the UK, worked within minutes which I got online. But that has been discontinued. Worst night was where I got up to take a pee and one leg locked up on me and then the other. All I could do was crouch over clutching both inner legs with my hands and watch myself turn purple with agony for an hour. When the pain stopped I was drenched in sweat with a large puddle of sweat on the floor.

Used to get them in my calf and foot....painful and downright annoying in the middle of the night. Mine were from dehydration after excercising, a rigorous activity, excessive sweating or even drinking. Increasing my H2O intake solved my problem...haven't experienced one in years.
