Where the law is not...
Grrrr. I have tried all the basics that I can find on the net. Can seem to get the system to even give me a semblanceof a picture on the tv. Tried the basic AV cable connectors that the system comes with, tried HDMI (my preferred connection), tried resetting factory settings, tried a different tv... nada. There does not seem to be any system issues at all. All the lights are on as should be - no strange sounds - the system accepts CD as normal.

The unit is one of the backwards compatible models and has had a HD upgrade from 80 gig to 160 gig.

Very frustrating - does not seem to be an issue that I would want to have to take the unit in for for servicing. I have googled the issue extensively and the answert seems to be the same everywhere... replug everything and reset factory settings by holding the power button - this has not worked. Probably tried this 20 times.

Any input would be great.

Thanks.

Have you got the TV set to the AV or HDMI input you are trying to view it on?

Indeed. Rechecked several times - even switched to alternate inputs. Would love this to be a simple issue... afraid it might not be.

You need to assume your cables are good
so that only leaves the output mods on the unit.

My bet is a cable is not connected or a board is not seated in the unit.

Is this something I could address without sending the unit in for repair?

LG

BTW thanks for all your input!

Unit has to be opened up.

If you are the least uncomfortable with that you should have it checked professionally. If it is under warranty you will void that the second you open it.

wait...did you buy the proper hdmi cables? specifically for videogames?
Nope. You think that could make the diff.? Still it does not work with the basic A/V cable the system comes with. :(

Try this. When the PS3 is turned off, press and hold the PS3 power button for approx 5-10 seconds.

This will reset the video mode on the PS3 and force it to cycle through different outputs and modes. Works like a charm when I take my PS3 to a friends house that lives in the stone age (doesn't have a HD TV).

Thanks - tried that a few times b4 posting the thread - that is the one thing I was able to find on the net in terms of trying to fix this issue. Nada.

The PS3 supports the HDMI standard. There is no such thing as proper videogame HDMI but Monster Cable would love you to believe that.

FYI, Monoprice and Blue Jean Cables are excellent for HDMI and other cable. Great prices and great people. Monster Cable actually went after Blue Jean since they've been eating away at their market share for years now.

I'm assuming you don't get any sound as well? If you're getting sound but no picture then I think you have to take it back to where you bought it.....

I should have fully read your first post. Sorry about that. You mention that the system boots up normally. I assume you don't hear any repeat chirps or beeps.

I know the PS3 chirps once when powering on. You can hear it in the first few seconds here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nV-zNEXXGmo

Did you hear that when trying both HDMI and RCA? If you do and there's no repeat chirps, I think it's an issue with the component required for video output.

The PS3 will beep multiple times if there's an issue with it. See http://www.google.ca/#hl=en&source=...meta=&aq=f&oq=ps3+beeping&fp=3755a7339fb66ed2

Yep, heard only one beep like in the vid. No other sounds.
