Any info will be appreciated. I'm from Windsor and we don't have much to choose from except for the Keg. A couple really good places closed recently. Any recommended steakhouses? I'll be staying in the Newmarket area for 2 nights, however trips are planned to Toronto and CasinoRama. Thank you.

Barcley's Steakhouse, 1921 Lawrence east. Never been bad ever, better price than Ruth Cris and easy to get o from Newmarket. You don't have to deal with downtown traffic. For downtown Bardi's or Barbarians, west end Le Castelle on Dundas St at the 427 for the same reason as Barclley's. Any oneof these will do fine. Ruth Cris is very good, but very expensive for what you get and isn't a Toronto establishment.

Harbour 60 beats Ruth Chris, and the Octagon, and La Castille (I've been to them all.) Never been to Mortons or Barbarians though.

Expect to pay about $150.00 a head (all tax and tips included) which is steep, but not over the top. (For over the top - try Hashimoto at the Japanese Cultural Centre at $350.00 a head - never been to Hashimoto. At that price, that's just silly - hey but wait, don't certain SPs in this town charge $1,000 for 2 hours?? But I digress.)

I second Harbor 60 as the best steak house in the city, though as mentioned it's pricey. Babarians is also good. I dislike Mortons but that may be a matter of taste, a lot of people seem to like it, and Octagon, while good, did not really impress me.

Well, if for some reason you dont like The Keg,... then I would go with Ruth's Chris in Downtown Toronto.

I also recommend Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, and agree that it is pricey - about $125.00 a head with wine.

Most of the others mentioned are also excellent, but out of my price range.

Now if you happened to be out around Hamilton, or are on your way home via the 403, you might want to try The Sirloin Cellar in the heart of downtown Hamilton.

It would be nice if you give us a review of where you decided to go when your trip is over.

+1

Sirloin Cellar is EXCELLENT! I had the steak and lobster on my last visit which was OUTSTANDING! The proprietors of the restaurant are also extremely nice people. (Hopefully the owners of the parking lot next door have fixed the coin machine! LOL)

We've also had steaks at Ruth's Chris, Mortons and lots of different Kegs as well- are are great, but the steaks are slightly better at Ruth's and Morton's. Having said that, The Keg has some outstanding appetizers as well... Mrs. CG and I have gone to the Keg just for apps & drinks on many occasions.

You have received all sorts of recommendations but unfortunately nobody responded with what you asked for. There is only one real steakhouse in Newmarket and that is Timothy's on Yonge st. There is also a Keg. I would choose Timothy's over the Keg. On the other hand I would eat at Aqua Grill or Oakland Hall in Aurora ( both off Yonge less than 10 minutes away) and order a steak there.

Now you've got the four points of the compass covered, now you have to choose. Bon appetite!

+3.

If you want eye candy, dine at the bar and not in a seat.

Another smaller place that I frequent is Tom Jones steakhouse. http://www.tomjonessteakhouse.com/

Where is this "New Market" of which you speak?

Won't necessarily comment based on price as I believe that price is a function of service and how you feel after the meal, but my 2 cents puts Harbour 60 as 1 and Jacobs and Co. as 2. Also if you are going to Rama, St. Germain in Rama is also close to 1.
Enjoy

I have always enjoyed my meal, and service at Zorro's... up near the Airport. It's a beef place and makes no apologies for it...
