I had a secret Gmail account that all of a sudden started asking for my phone number so I stopped using it . I then created a new one and after 24hrs it did the same. I downloaded an app that gives a temp phone number so I could use it to get the code to get into my account and it was denied by google...

I now have 2 accounts that I can no longer access unless I give a phone number ... Does anyone know any ways around this ? for obvious reasons I do not want to leave my real number

Use a fake number? Not a random one? Just long enough to go it. Delete everything. And get a different email.

Yahoo works fine.

I will try yahoo

The thing is you need to use a real number to get an access code to get into your email

Tried yahoo and you also need to put a real number to sign up , tried a few business numbers I know and a few made up and no go

Ah. My main email is via Rogers. I have a Gmail account as well but haven't opened it in awhile. I will check.

I just downloaded TOR today for browsing usage. And am experimenting with better anonymity. Perhaps if you go to Reddit there will be a forum for anonymous email options. I plan to go do just that in the near future.

Did some more research and found one called GMX.com testing it out now and will report back

I hope you all realize if you use the same mode of internet it's not actually anonymous either way, unless with a VPN anyoke could find your IP address in 10 seconds.

Even with TOR you can be traced, if you make a mistake. There have been black hat hackers and others who have been tracked down. Although they did something stupid/made a mistake which got them caught. Even connecting to a VPN and then TOR or vice versa you can be traced if you make a mistake.

Unless you need a Gmail account I'd recommend Proton Mail. There are other email services as well and more keep popping up.

My point was there are a few simple things you can do. And unless you doing something nefarious those simple things will keep you well off the radar.

Tor and a good email as mentioned above will be more than enough for a hobbyist.

Sure TOR, but 99% of people don't know what that is or how to use is. I'm very tech savvy and know how to use onions to reach anything off the dark web so don't really need the explaination ahahha
How difficult is TOR for regular browsing? Download it. Set the privacy strings. Use it like any other. Don't try to buy guns, drugs, child porn etc and you will be off the radar. And that is the best anonymity.

The other ones tracked down were nasty people or facilitators of nasty people. I don't do either. I just have decided I prefer not to have advertisers stalking me. So I'm changing my habits.

But I'm not doing anything or going places that would LE really want to take a look for me. Checking out Agency and Indy Sites is about it. I'm the tadpole. Lots of whales out there.

Thanks for the Proton Mail information. I will check them out.

There's a skip-option for this. Otherwise, basic stay-safe-online strategies apply and they're not fool-proof: use a different browser for play versus personal. There are free VPN apps you can use, or you can subscribe to one. Change up your passwords, log out of everything. Proton-mail is annoying, but it's also encrypted. It's you're worried about privacy for social media, check out Cyberdust. Switch up usernames. If you're using your phone, keep location services off.

I've written fairly extensively about my passion for internet security and privacy here: www.datebecky.com/opsec. Also, check out reddit.com/r/adultery and look for opsec posts < I really think this a forum everyone can learn a lot from!

Yes, I understand TOR probably more than 95% of the population I'm just stating it's not fool proof.

I don't recall ever giving Google my phone number. But those crafty buggers probably have it already anyway.

Go to your local convenience store, or Walmart, or whatever. Buy a pay-as-you-go smarthpone. Might cost you as much as $50. Buy a pay-as-you-go (PAYG) plan to go with it. Maybe $50/month.

Create a Gmail account with that phone. Use that Gmail account with that phone. If you're really super-paranoid, avoid places that have surveillance cameras (if possible) or if you have a buddy who runs a 7-11 and you know he erases the tapes every week buy the PAYG cards from his place. Always pay cash for all of the above.

VPNs can be tracked. It's just usually not worthwhile for the cops to do so. They can track you this way, too, but it'll take them more time.

If all you're doing is hobbying, this is probably already 3 levels of paranoid too far. That's a good thing. If you're engaging in drug trafficking, gun running, identity theft, human trafficking, or terrorism, your offenses will be big enough for the cops to put in the effort, but for regular non-pedophile hobbying? They don't have the time for that. The time they spend catching you, they'll be letting a dozen, less careful guys get past them.

For a hobbyist, be the biggest pain in the ass for them to catch. If all you're doing is seeing an MPA or an SP, you're not worth the warrant to track the GPS signal on your PAYG phone.

There is no such things as true anonymity these days. But you can make it too difficult for a casual attempt to figure out who you are, and that needs to be good enough.

Oh: and I've seen the Gmail screen asking for your phone numbers. LOOK FOR THE SKIP BUTTON. I'm pretty sure you can skip that login requirement. They're asking for your phone as a backup if you lose your password or if your password is hacked. If you're too cheap to go with a PAYG phone, live with the chance that some hacker might crack your password and screw you over. If you have a PAYG phone, you can at least go with 2 step verification. Which isn't 100% protection, but it's pretty damn solid. Again: too much trouble for hackers to bother with, when there are a million dummies who have "C00!guy69!!!!" as their password.

Pretty much in the same boat as me then.

I used a number I bought from the Burner app from the App Store and Google, and even WhatsApp, didn't let me use the first number I purchased, but it did let me use the second one.

General safety tips, like making sure you're logged out of any Google account, Amazon, etc will help. A VPN is highly recommended (if you use a free one your info is being sold) especially ones that have their own DNS servers. Make sure to clear your history, cache, cookies, and if you use a Mac I highly recommend CleanMyMac. Reputable developers and besides clearing out junk on your Mac and saving you tons of space they have a function that will delete any cookies that were left behind. There are also free browser plugins that will help you from advertisers. Private Internet Access has a feature they call MACE which helps with that, although it's not perfect.

Google is nag central for those who create multiple fake emails (I am assuming they log ip or something)

To OP
Yandex
Russian email and probably easiest to get a fake account from that actually has some real features if you plan to use it
