Good question....

if he gets in, is he going to wear a expos or cubs?

...aren't there rules that govern this? Don't they just pick the team you spent the most time with? Wasn't that the whole beef with Gary Carter (who wanted to go in a MET but the HOF sent him in as an Expo...)

The players wishes are taken into consideration, but ultimately the HOF decides what cap he wears.

They say the team where the player made his biggest contribution is the team they usually choose.

Roger Clemens will be a very interesting one when his time comes. A case can be made for more than one team.

He'll wear the cap of his bank.

Average player?

9 straight Gold Glove awards
NL MVP
7 time Silver Slugger Award winner
10 time All Star

Either you want to start an argument, or you are showing off your ignorance.

Sandburg didn't deserve crap!Average ballplayer on bad teams.
...clearly your baseball knowledge is limited.

Sandburg was a near 40 / 40 guy (did both, just not in the same season) who won multiple Gold Gloves. Until recently he was the ALL TIME leader in home runs amongst 2nd basemen...and the guy who finally passed him couldn't hold his jock in the field. He remains (unless very recently eclipsed) the all time leader amongst 2nd sackers in fielding percentage.

You can make a case the Ryne Sandberg is the greatest second baseman of all time, or at least the modern era. The argument isn't a lock (Alomar and Biggio can also make very strong cases) but Sandberg is one of a very, very few players about whom you can intelligently say he was both / either the best hitter and / or fielder at his position without getting laughed out of the bar you are standing in.

Summary - At one point Ryne Sandberg was both the all time leader in home runs AND fielding percentage at his postion....something no other player in the history of baseball could say. And he won several gold gloves and an MVP award while doing so.

So...explain to me how he was an "average player"?

Forgetting about anyone else who has entered the hall recently, do you really think Sandberg had the longevity to be in amongst the greats of the game? I'm not so sure myself...yeah, he was good and had his time, but you look at the Rocket Rogers of the world, and he has been at the top for twenty years. Even Dawson was at his best for Montreal for ten years, then with the Cubs for another period of time.

Sandberg played for 16 years, won one MVP, lead the league in homers and TB once, in runs thrice, won 9 Gold Gloves, and was arguably the best 2nd baseman of his time (you could make a good case for Roberto Alomar). His .285 average and 282 lifetime homers are solid for 2nd basemen, and while I don't think his selection was a no-brainer, I think he deserves to be in the HOF.

I agree that he deserves to be there. You need to compare his numbers to others in his era and position.

Dawson would have had much better career numbers if he hadn't ruined his knees playing on the horrible astroturf at the Big Owe.

Dawson fell about 70 votes short of getting in today. Bruce Sutter was the only inductee, with Jim Rice and Goose Gossage falling short.

I agree that Dawson deserves to be there; at his prime he was arguably the best player in the game, but if it hasn`t happened by now it probably won`t.
Next year Cal Ripken, Mark McGwire and Tony Gwynn are all up, everybody else will get lost in the shuffle.
