People always have a need to go to a store to try on shoes, try on pants, try on shirts, etc. you can't do that online...yet. Some people still love the trill of retail therapy so they venture out to stores. It's also a social thing to do when shopping with Friends and Family. Also, many people want the merchandise right away and won't wait for shipping. Still bricks and mortar stores are gonna have to adjust their business model to survive.

They said the same thing about robots in the 1970's.

Meh, who knows what the future might bring

Warren Buffett already pulled out 900 million from Walmart. That says it all about retail stores
Many people I know buy online and don't mind the wait. Many companies are 1 week or less and have good return policies.
Just fab sells shoes and clothes and they are very successful. These days many feel they don't need to try on shoes at a store. 35+ demo still feels they do

Times change - jobs shift. A lot of people complain about high prices yet they cry when jobs are being eliminated. Someone has to support these online stores and their infrastructure, Amazon has CREATED a lot of job as well.

Amazon is killing it now, I can place an order today and get it before 8PM the same day. In the US, you can get things in less than an hour. There's no waiting! These is also many places where you can order whatever you want and they make the return process very painless, even easier then trying something in a store.

Shopping is changing, either you change your ways (as a retailer and a consumer) or your going to miss out!

Aren't most products sold on Amazon made from China...so are they not both interrelated?

Big name brand department stores should follow the same business model as Amazon in terms of convenience - Fast online order/delivery (free delivery incentive), wide selections of products, competitive pricing and great customer service. Sounds like an escort agency...

That problem of trying clothes, shoes, etc on can be solved by having a generous return policy. There are many online retailers like Amazon, JackThreads, etc that have basically solved that problem. There's also a company called IndoChino that does made to measure shirts and suits, but they do have showrooms where you can have a tailor measure you or you can do it yourself.

The article mentions car salesmen as having little to worry about from online sales. I'm not so sure.

The other day my wife and I were discussing Tesla and we had different reasons to like the company. I just kind of thought their cars were cool, because of their tech.

She had a totally different reason: You buy off their website, get a fair price, with no slimy salesman, and they deliver to your home. She said she wished every car company worked that way.

I would have to agree with your wife, that is if you don't need to test drive the car. There are certain things I would rather not order online, but lately more of the stuff I buy are purchased online.

Tesla still has show rooms where you can view and test drive cars, but you can't buy from the show room. They tell you to go to the Tesla website to place an order.

I can see that working for a lot of products. Even clothing show rooms where you can try stuff on and if you want to buy you go to the website. With one hour delivery the product may beat you home from the store.

Surprisingly enough, you can also order your Telsa through Amazon (seems like this option is only available for U.S). I can see how this can reduce the time in choosing the many options available to you in building your new car.

I know people that just buy on line, they buy 2 pairs of shoes and send one back or both all free of charge.
