That problem of trying clothes, shoes, etc on can be solved by having a generous return policy. There are many online retailers like Amazon, JackThreads, etc that have basically solved that problem. There's also a company called IndoChino that does made to measure shirts and suits, but they do have showrooms where you can have a tailor measure you or you can do it yourself.People always have a need to go to a store to try on shoes, try on pants, try on shirts, etc. you can't do that online...yet. Some people still love the trill of retail therapy so they venture out to stores. It's also a social thing to do when shopping with Friends and Family. Also, many people want the merchandise right away and won't wait for shipping. Still bricks and mortar stores are gonna have to adjust their business model to survive.
I would have to agree with your wife, that is if you don't need to test drive the car. There are certain things I would rather not order online, but lately more of the stuff I buy are purchased online. The article mentions car salesmen as having little to worry about from online sales. I'm not so sure.
The other day my wife and I were discussing Tesla and we had different reasons to like the company. I just kind of thought their cars were cool, because of their tech.
She had a totally different reason: You buy off their website, get a fair price, with no slimy salesman, and they deliver to your home. She said she wished every car company worked that way.
Tesla still has show rooms where you can view and test drive cars, but you can't buy from the show room. They tell you to go to the Tesla website to place an order.I would have to agree with your wife, that is if you don't need to test drive the car. Surprisingly enough, you can also order your Telsa through Amazon (seems like this option is only available for U.S). I can see how this can reduce the time in choosing the many options available to you in building your new car.Tesla still has show rooms where you can view and test drive cars, but you can't buy from the show room. I can see that working for a lot of products. Even clothing show rooms where you can try stuff on and if you want to buy you go to the website. With one hour delivery the product may beat you home from the store.
I know people that just buy on line, they buy 2 pairs of shoes and send one back or both all free of charge.People always have a need to go to a store to try on shoes, try on pants, try on shirts, etc. you can't do that online...yet.
