I have this habit of making sure I have a kleenex or napkin before I go to a public toilet, The reason for the napkin is to make my escape after the deed. I require some sort of barrier between myself and the dirty door handle to facilitate an escape from the germ infested surroundings of a public toilet. To enter a public toilet I often kick the door to open it so that I could enter. On one occasion there was a guy inside reaching for the door handle and the door smashed his fingers. He cursed at me and I had to shoo him away by telling him that I would report him to security if he persisted on hanging around public toilet facilities. Am I all alone in this world? Are there others like me? Are there others in this world that the janitor of public facilities would like to stangle because the use kleenexes to pull open the toilet door and then drop it on the floor?

Thats what I just said, I open the door with the napkin and then drop it on the floor becuase it is contaminated with urine from the hands that have been shaking dicks. I do not use faucets and sinks in public toilets as they are quite dirty and my crotch is very clean, People have eaten off my crotch!:D

I hate public toilets, and I HATE having someone in the stall next to me taking a #2. I hate it so much that I've come to the point that, if no one is around, I will lock the stall next to me with a coin.

Actually the hospitals are filled with people who have picked up infections from door handles in public washrooms. It's a serious matter.

I guess I can understand the germaphobia but I don't understand why these people have to throw the kleenex or paper towel on the floor. We have some people like this where I work and the floor is always littered with paper towels by the bathroom door.

the surfaces with the highest density of harmful bacteria are computer keyboards, public phones and desks at work. the irony is that people's perception of the dirtiness of public restrooms makes them less contaminated than the areas mentioned above.

Put a recycle bin by the bathroom door.

Some grocery stores, now have wipes to clean the buggy handle.

Dr.'s Offices and Hospitals are full of germs, use hand sanitizer as often as possible in these enviroments.

I was in the pharmacy today, and they gave me a pager to let me know my prescription was ready. I wondered how often they clean those.

How often do you clean your cell phone or your home phone, door handles, t.v converters, light switches?

Honestly, everyone should just wear gloves!

I am constantly using the cuff of my sleeve to open doors!

Yes, public keyboards in the library are bad. I read once that a guy's wallet is one of the most germ infested things he touches...leather...heated up by the body all day, with paper put in and out touched by other people....a warm wallet is filled with germs. Also, a kitchen sink on avergae has more germs/bacteria than the average toilet. There was an article that ice cube making machines in restaurants were loaded with germs and that there were less germs in a sample of water taken from a restaurant's toilet bowel than there were in a sample of melted ice from a drink served at the bar.

A healthy immune system is the key to wellness. If the immune system is good, a lot of everyday germs can be thrown off. If you don't get enough sleep and are over stressed, you catch things you otherwise wouldn't.

And MLAM, before you ask, no, I'm not a doctor...but I do believe this is true from a layman's point of view :)

Ditto.... I do this everytime I use public washroom anywhere.

I hate those one's that have those blower type hand dryers and no paper towels... so if no napkins or keenex in my pocket I just grab a big long piece of tissue from the stall.

Also use hand sanitizer if one around ... a few places (mostly hospitals etc) still have them around... left over from the SARS scare yrs ago.

Why don't you put your soiled napkin in the trash receptacle, where it belongs? Or perhaps flush it down the toilet? What makes you think other people want to use a washroom where the floor is littered with your "contaminated" napkins?

If you are that concerned about hygiene, and must use a public washroom, carry a pair of latex gloves with you, and wear them ...

Agree with the using a paper towel or kleenex to open the door...but why drop it on the floor? Yes it is nice when there is a garbage can right at the door, but if there isn't...there is likely one not far away.

Litter is litter whether it is an empty chip bag, cigarette butts, candy wrappers or your used paper towel. Put litter in a bin...don't leave it as an eye sore for someone else and for someone else to clean up after you. You may be justified worrying about germs on a door but it doesn't give you the right to litter!

I've often thought that the basic design flaw in public restrooms (from a sanitary perspective) is that their doors let you push them open when entering (when you haven't yet peed or pooped on your hands!) but make you grab the door handle to pull on when you leave, risking contamination from others who haven't washed, etc. They should all be "pull handle on the way in, push door with your arm on the way out", no?

Great point. At the office I use the paper towel to get out but keep it on me so I can drop it off in one of the bins of a 'meeting room' or the bin by my desk. Usually if people see a messy place, they think it's okay to be messy as well. It doesn't help the cause if paper towels are being dropped on the floor.

Wouldn't it be great if they can have automatic doors as well? This goes against "Green Thinking" though as it involves energy use.
Having the a 'push door' design would have to be thought out from the beginning of the building's conception as you wouldn't want doors flying out into hallways with passersby.
I guess the best solution thus far has been put into effect at most malls where doors are non-existent - Just blind corners so no one can see inside the washrooms.

You don't even need doors in washrooms, you can have just a corridor with a partition (like we had in high school).

BTW, when you are in a washroom and you smell shit, that's actually little particles of shit that your nose is tasting. The particles float around in the washroom and you breath them in. Noses are not sensors that can detect shit from 20 feet away. Noses are like mouths - they taste. (Hence why smell and taste are related senses. Get a nasal cold - lose your sense of tasete.)

Have a nice day...

I was not being sarcastic! I was only trying to point out that the workplace is not the only place these germs accumulate and most people do not clean these places at home.

I truly do clean my door handles, t.v converters and light switches at least twice a week.

The first thing I do when I enter my house is wash my hands.
