What can I say? It was offered at my school into the 70's. Unfortunately, I had to drop Latin prior to grade 13. I had to choose between Latin and French and chose French.
Aside from that phrase the only other thing I remember from Latin class is the derivation of the word "sincere".
There was a product (I forget what it was) that could be made either with or without wax, the one with wax being superior. However, to the naked eye it was not discernable which was which. So if he was selling the inferior one, a shopkeeper who was honest would put up a sign saying "sine cere" or without wax to let shoppers know. He was therefore honest or sincere.
So, indeed, it is a dead language but it is the basis of all the Romantic languages and much can still be learned by it's study.
