There was just a thread about this and replied. But thread is gone,

Seems like a good idea for a discussion and I am always looking for healthy, interesting snacks.

Here is one idea

In search of new munchies that don’t make me feel like shit but aren’t necessarily fully healthy or unhealthy. More so a good medium, silly question but any recommendations? I’m becoming over my hummus & veggie go to 😩
Air popped popcorn. Then mist with olive oil then dust with powdered species. Like smoked paprika. or cinamon . or whatever mix you might dream up.Maybe spray/mist with chili oil?

I have a few Dollarama Oil Misting/sprayerswith diiferent oils. Olive oil is affirmatively healthy.. And with the glycemic index theory, oiled popcorn is healthier and less fattening than plain popcorn. Skip the salt if possible.

I make a lot of Indian snacks in the air fryer.

Onion Pakoda is one of my favourites. Here is the air fryer recipe that I follow (minus the rice flour because I try to reduce carbs) and it tastes amazing. Infact, you can do this with any veggie. I par boil some cauliflower, cut them into small pieces and do the same thing and it becomes cauliflower pakoda. Or use broccoli. The gram flour (besan as it is called in India) is also not too much, its just 1 to 2 tbsp and it is basically powdered chickpeas, so higher in protein.

Or this, called Masala Vada, which is made from yellow lentils (Chana dal). Prep time is a bit longer as the lentils need to soak for a couple of hours. I use olive oil spray for all this.

Honestly if I'm going to snack I just do it. The key is portion size and frequency. I maybe do a bag of the microwave popcorn once every 3 weeks. A chip like snack once a month. I buy the Peanut butter filled pretzels from Costco but only need a handfull when I go for them. SO bakes so I get my cookie fix with all natural. She makes them smaller in size. And I limit the amount I eat.

My weakness is cured meats. So again I graze a bit. But life is too short to deny and come up with funky substitutes.

Just make sure your main meals are good. Get your exercise in. Drink lots of water.

Cheesecake!!!!!!!!

😂😂😂😂😂
I fucking developed a lactose intolerance about 5 years ago. The pills help but I just have to avoid lots of things. And soft cheese is top of the list. I haven't had it in years.

I will take on the hard work of eating extra for you. I know it is a hard ask but I am here for my fellow TERBIEs and would be honoured to assist you in this matter.

As far as medical issues I think I'm getting off lucky on this one. My SO has come up with some alts that work well on the baking side. Lots of sweet options out there.

But ya. Missing that Cherry Cheesecake. And other berry toppings.

As always the sacrifices of my fellow travelers are appreciated..........🫡

You eat cheese before or while sharing an airliner cabin? 🌬
Dude, I can't even take the smell. Fortunately hard old cheese is fine. And goat cheese. But I avoid that and beer now out of respect. I used to always have one beer before flying.

Aging just does weird shit sometimes. Not quite 60, still in good shape. But things like gas, acid reflux are just daily now.

I've been experimenting with fermenting supermarket vegetables like cauliflower, cucumbers, red onions, asparagus etc. Turn out well but looking forward to some fresh Ontario veggies this summer!
Same here. I do refridgerator pickling, which is short term(ready in a couple of days and good for less than a month). Cucumbers and banana peppers turn out the best. Green tomatoes, carrots, cauliflower, and cabbage turn out good. I leave out the vinegar on the cabbage. I didn't have success with celery, even though I love celery. The trick is to get the vinegar to salt ratio right. I don't generally add sugar.

I hear ya.

I had to take a course of antibiotics and it fucked up my gut flora so bad. I stunk like Trump's diaper pail. Took me months of eating fermented sauerkraut, pickles, Japanese fermented miso etc etc .

Inadequate and unhealthy gut flora has so many as-yet unknown complications.

Seriously, I wish shit eating was legal for something other than treating C-diff.

BBQ nuts, raw whole cashews and peanuts. Done separately in a wire basket.

Place the cashews or peanuts, in a bowl, add some extra virgin olive oil, sprinkle some salt to taste, mix thoroughly. Place in the basket and bbq for about 15 minutes, turning every few minutes.

I used to do a lot of vinegar-salt brine pickling. But I'm doing the fermenting style now for the probiotic benefits. Plus since Strubs went out of business,I started doing my own half-sour dills.

But thanks for the other ideas. I'll try pickling a peck of peppers.

I was unaware Strubs went out of business. I miss Mrs. Whytes pickles, but I'm quite happy with the Chicago 58 brand.

Strubs was bought out/merged with Whytes Foods a few years back, and Whytes are now in bankruptcy. That is why you can no longer find Strubs pickles, a staple for me for over 30 years!

Marty's Pickles is my new go-to whenever I am near fancy grocery stores. Marty is a 4th generation Strub pickle maker.

Here's some blog posts and links to some CFRB radio shows etc. Really interesting for pickle afficianados!
