Sometimes greed isn't good, Federico Macheda is proof of that. I remember all the teeth gnashing that went on when he got poached by ManU, in the long run his career has been stunted. Getting marked out of the match by a semi-fit Michel Ciani adds to his misery. Not to mention his disastrous loan at Sampdoria which saw him blanked and the club relegated. Antonio Macheda took the money and ran, unfortunate if he had stayed with Lazio he could have become a star by now.

The only player that is irrefutable on that list is Ryan Giggs.

From 1998 - 2001, Stefano Fiore was the most versatile midfielder of his day, notice how ordinary JS Veron looked when he got to Old Trafford. The Englishman has been much more durable, injuries cut short Fiore's career. As for Beckham, he was never a leader. If he had Lothar Matthaus's heart within him England would , at the very least, have reached the final of Mexico02 and Portugal04.

Lazio is still in the running for the Europa Cup, unlike ManU they do not lose their nerve a man down.

I would say that Schmeichel, Stam and the unjustly forgotten Sheringham had more to to with the success of 1999.

You left few items out about Fiore. He help guide Lazio to the scudetto in 2000 (coached by Sven-Goran Erikkson and his player/assistant Roberto Mancini) and played a crucial role in the Azzurri getting to the Final of Euro 2000 ( something the 3 Lions have noticeably failed to do). Primarily a holding midfielder he raised his game after Captain Antonio Conte got spiked out of the tournament. Not a natural goal scorer but he knew how to do "the little things" that allowed his clubs to win. Scholes has had better talent around him and doesn't have a brittle body.

Btw, Roman Abramovich wants Antonio Conte to coach Chelsea next season. I'm sure Tony is thrilled at the prospect of becoming another fly-by-night coach.

Victor has made no actual statement about leaving Camp Nou other than to say he would like to absorb 'Otros Paises' (Other Cultures/Countries). IMHO, everyone refers to the Blaugrana as a 'MessiPuyolXaviIniesta' tandem and never mention him although he is every bit as much of the core fabric as the others mentioned. A product of l'Hospitalet, I'm sure he wants to reach as far as he can go.

A refreshed Barca came out fighting and showed the world what they can do. I had a particular favorite moment of the match and it didn't have to do with any goals and it's rather difficult to explain but the end result is what matters.

Obviously someone is blowing smoke, I saw no such crowd trouble. The abuse thrown Balotelli's way during thew derby was much more intense. If there were problems, I didn't see any, then let UEFA deal with it. Typical English hypocrisy, the English Disease was contagious and it will take years if not decades to stamp out.
