I think it is also good that Canadians travel abroad and come back with a greater appreciation of Canadian values and laws. Unless Rebecca Rutland is brain dead, I'm sure that she appreciates Canada much more now that she have seen life in Mexico. Of course, Russians who fled Russia for a better life in Canada will still cheer for Russia when the Ruskies play Canada in hockey.
This guy in Jamaica has nothing to do with Canadian laws or values. It is attempted murder. He is the alleged perpetrator. It can be argued that he will get 'better' justice in Jamaica. Again, nothing to do with Canadian 'values', which is a misnomer, since there are a lot of countries in this world that has the same 'values'. Our laws may be seen to be too lax when it comes to murder, so he may get proper justice.

Agree. I was expanding the conversation to Canadians travelling abroad generally. I know when I travel, I always look forward to coming back home to Canada.

It is a huge problem when an Iranian-Canadian goes to Iran. The Iranian government will treat that individual as an Iranian citizen on Iranian soil and subject to Iranian justice. (If homo, hung by neck until dead.)
Many countries do not allow you to relinquish your citizenship as well... so it is not all cut and dry. If a country cannot supply clean water, how do you think it will do with much more complex processes like citizenship registry and polices. Some of these countries are in the stone age. Some do not even have a registry...some can only tell you came from there because it says so in your Canadian Passport.

No its more like $250 and then there is transportation to the hotel, so either shuttle bus or taxi and be stuck at the beach and the high hotel/food prices or rent a car.

For $75 I can drive to and from Toronto and back in my own car or for $130 take Greyhound round trip from Detroit and $10 a day ride the TTC everywhere I want to go.

I know its cheaper than flying out of Toronto for U guys. I guess i could swing a FL trip but then come spring no Niagara Falls, screw that, I got a new bike I want to ride around by the Falls and those SP are a bargain, IMO

Say you do act like Tboy, he was always quoting my posts and asking for ex, lol

Did you know that the United States is one of those countries that makes it very difficult to renounce citizenship. You have to do it from outside the US and your renounciation may not be accepted for many reasons such as if it is a tax or military oriented reason.
I knew that the arm of uncle sam was long.. but I did not realize it was that long. Yeah US citizenship comes with quite a bit of baggage. I would be a bit leary of taking it even if I was in a position to do so. As a Canadian we can go there for 6 months at a time.... that is all the USA I need...actually that is far too much.

A long time ago, one of my co-workers was born in Italy (not sure of he also had Canadian citizenship). Anyway, he said he could not set foot on Italian soil because he would be drafted into the Italian army.
