I don't blame the clients for being frustrated at not getting cash refunds for COVID cancelled flights. The reality is that Air Canada has no cash to give. They are also not generating much new cash as 90% of their planes are grounded. AC doesn't even have enough cash to pay their own employees.

Maybe the cancelled flights are a blessing in disguise. It might have saved some people from catching the virus in some foreign land.

Anybody here waiting for a refund?

Paying for a flight is a contract. The airline did not live up to their commitment.

There is a thread in this section with guidance on how to attempt to get a refund. My family has $11k in vouchers coming and hopefully can use them within the 2 year expiry.

Air Canada canceled my trip to Toronto just after the ban said credit was good till 6/30/2021 but have to contact them to rebook and use. Don't see it showing up anywhere on-site to confirm. Hotels refunded non-refundable bookings total 7 nights.

American Airlines - I canceled before they did trip a flight to Montreal just before the ban since agencies were closing etc. Their credit is only good till 12/30/2020. Hotel booked for 7 nights did a full refund even though was prepaid can not change reservation.

Another problem is I renewed my Nexus back in July that expired on 12/30/2019. I recently got notice I have to have an interview again. Due to delays, Nexus extended all expired passes till 12/30/2020 but somehow have to get somewhere on an available interview date before year-end.

You are entitled to a full cash refund for Covid-19 related flight cancellations. If they refuse you can get your money back through opening a chargeback dispute with your credit card company.

An airline that profits in billions a year for decades has no money to give back after being grounded for a couple of months?????

Dividends and stock buybacks instead of saving for a rainy day.

Many out there have. My flights haven’t been officially cancelled yet so I have to wait until they are to start the process.

I just checked AC rates. They no longer have their non-strop at least thru August from Phoenix to Toronto. Their one-way fare for June date is over $2800 ONE WAY couch! I assume this is only for essential travelers being screwed since the rest of us can not get to Canada. I checked fares for a mid -August trip and was about $600 RT. My canceled direct flight fare from April was $394 RT.

For the last few years have used American since it is usually cheaper around $350 RT as I recall but no direct flights. For an April trip AC had a sale with 25% discount I took advantage of and was direct. So was worth paying slightly more than on American.

I think I booked before the March 1 date for refunds per link report. I have an email saying I have 24 months from March 2020 to use the credit.

Thanks blueray. I'm just waiting for the voucher emails to come in so I have the paper trail to follow through on attempting to get the cash back as you suggest.

That said I will give them another week or two at most and then start calling in and following the steps suggested.

Since about 50% of the value was points we saved up - any thoughts on a charge back request to the bank/visa? They would reinstate the points I'm guessing and refund the cash paid out - if successful?

You posted this twice. So you are looking for affirmation from a punter that getting a cash refund is possible? I will give this to you, just be patient. My flights are coming up soon.
Look on my original thread and go the the air passengers rights Facebook page and read about the people who have successfully said FU to the airline voucher BS and have gotten their cash refund from their credit card provider. Like the articles I posted point out, they may try to dissuade you from opening a chargeback dispute, but it’s in your cardholder agreement that they have to, and you will get your refund. The airlines and government are just hoping most people just agree to the voucher.

Feel free to be a wallflower and agree to a voucher thinking that if I don’t, airlines will no longer operate in Canada.

I did not mean to insult you, so there is no need to be confrontational. I was just asking if anybody here on Terb would post that he has received a refund, which is different from "many have received refunds".

Many VISA cards include cancellation insurance, so it should be straightforward to get a refund. Amex does not include cancellation insurance as a default.
