About Muslims...

After reading the thread "Muslim dad kills daughter" I wanted to start this thread. Here is what I know / lived and have to say about Muslims.

Don't anybody even try to tell ME how they are. I grew up a Christian in Turkey. We lived in the city of Istanbul which is not the capital city but it is THE major city in Turkey, sort of like Toronto. Let me tell you, we were treated like shit by Muslims for the very simple reason that we were Christians.
It is very appearent and you feel it every single day of your life whether you are a kid playing on the streets, a teenager in high school or an adult at your workplace. In Turkey, if you're not Muslim you are called a "Gavur" sort of like a word comparable to Nigger. The exception is, Muslims can call you that outright on the street because they heard you talking another language other than Turkish. Get into a fight as a kid and it's like "mooom, the son of the Gavur is beating me up". In the mandatory army service in Turkey, all non-Muslims are given different dog tag numbers so even if you have changed your first and last name to try and fit in (which my grandfather had to do just to stay alive) your superiors know to treat you like a dog. You want to live dangerous? Try wearing a cross around your neck in the summer, see how many dirty looks you get on the street and what kind of names you get called.

We were well-off in Turkey, we had a summer house on a local island that we lived in, in the summer. "They" are mad at you because you are a successful "Gavur" in their country. People used to come on our property on the beach and start their own picnic on Sundays, you can't tell them anything, never mind, you have to be hospitable and offer them drinks and so on AND still hear them in the background talking about how nice the Gavurs have it and how they don't deserve it. In 1914-1915, one and a half Armenians killed. No wait...SLAUGHTERED in Turkey. Don't tell me it didn't happen because my great-grandfather was killed by the very same man that used to help them around the house, he showed up at door and said to my great-grandmother "I just killed your husband, now you are going to be one of mine". She was able to get my grandfather (5 years old at the time) with some of the people that were being forced out of their own houses and they were able to reunite years later. In the early to mid 50s (I can get the exact year from my father) right in the heart of the biggest city in Turkey on September 6 & 7. For 2 days only non-Muslim houses were burned, stoned, women and young girls raped on the streets. Again in the early to mid 50s a new tax was created by the government only AND ONLY for non-Muslims. The new tax was named, literally translated, "tax of existence" meaning....If you are not Muslim and live in this Muslim country, you must pay. They don't care how you pay, you were assessed by the amount of your assets. You have 2-3 properties? You only need one. You own a business? Not anymore. You can't pay? Go build roads in eastern Turkey at -30C temperatures. WHY? Simply because you are not Muslim.

All of the above, only because of religion. Which I still maybe would be fine with IF they weren't immigrating to Christian countries like Canada now. Bringing the same shit them. If religion is so important to you that you kill your own daughter for it then WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN THIS CHRISTIAN COUNTRY????? Oh wait...I forgot you are savage AND a hypocrite.

I am not a very religious person but let me tell you I do enjoy going to the Mac's Milk around the corner wearing my cross around my neck. While the "person" behind the counter is giving me my change back, look him in the eye and think "Yeah Motherfucker, I am wearing a cross, you probably don't like it but you HAVE to tolerate it" :)

The fact that Turks were racist where you grew up does not mean the Muslim behind the counter in Toronto is.

The religious leaders around the world have a lot to answer for though as a result of both their actions and inaction.

wow, Sargeant...sorry to hear about your family story, but as train says, many of the immigrants do come to Canada to escape (or not take part) of that sort of racism. Comparing a muslim in Turkey or the Middle East to a honest worker in Toronto or any city in Canada is just stereotyping and generalization.

If by the same token, we can assume that all Americans are racist murders and genocidal maniacs because black people were slaved and treated like dog shit 150 years ago or so...not all white people are KKKs, but by your judgement, guess they are. The same applies to Germany. Many of todays German kids have probably had a grand father who supported and helped the Nazi regime...but are they all arian extremists themselves?

I have a similar family story with the Japanese, they the nazis of Asia not too far ago. But I have many Japanese friends and learned to rationalize the hate we grow up with towards a certain race/nation/religion, etc.

The wise individual is the one who learns to forgive and see thru the hatred, not one who condems a whole nation based on the actions of mad men (who have a very twisted idea of their own beliefs).

I have no doubt that these types of expereinces are true in many countries, but as other posters have said, there is a distinction to be made between people and religion.

I'm sorry to hear about the abuse you suffered. However, because you suffered abuse from Muslims it does not mean that they abused you because of their religion. They can all be binded by bitterness and hatred stemming from other factors such as culture or politics.

If it was an issue shared between all Muslims then I sincerely believe that there would be a lot of heated confrontations in our own cities....

I have friends from Iraq that are Christrians and where treated very badly as well.
Everyone in Iraq can be treated badly by someone else...... Muslim, non-Muslim, they all can be treated badly from someone else who doesn't belong to their group (i.e. Turk on non-Turk, Muslim on non-Muslim, Sunni on Shite, etc.).... That country is hell on earth.....

This is not about Muslims and Christians, its about human tribal behavior. India has caste system which is equally obscene.

I might be wrong...but wasn't the whole region very disputed back in the 12th or 13th century by Christians and Otomans? (Histoy lessons not paying off right now...)

All this hatred might be triggered from what Christians might have done centuries ago.

Hey, I don't care what they do in their own country just as long as they don't bring it here.

I was not allowed to wear a cross in a muslim country why should I let an employee pray to god on company time 4-5 times a day? What a joke.

All I want to know is if religion means so much to these people that they kill for it then why are they coming here. Why do we have to let them practice their religion if they wouldn't let me practice mine? I do and will keep giving dirty looks to these fanatic religious types. Go try and build a church in a Muslim country, there are mosques popping up everywhere and I dont like it!!!

Why do we have to let them practice their religion if they wouldn't let me practice mine?
Because:

1) You claim to be "better" than they are, and someone who is better than someone else doesn't act the same way as that someone else you claim to be better than.

2) You claim to be a Christian, then Christianity tells you to turn the other cheek.

3) The only way to move forward is for someone to actually "move forward".

4) It's the way Canadian society works, and is the law of Canada. If you came here unable to follow Canadian laws and cultural norms, then what right do you have to complain about people who do the same thing you are doing?

Correction, I don't claim to be better than they are but according to them Christians are certainly not as good as Muslims proven by their acts of killing so many.

1) If I wanted to act like they did/do on their own turf, I would be in jail by now.

2) I am Christian but not very religious, I don't go to church every sunday.

3) The only way to move forward is to stop this garbage from coming to this country.

4) Yeah...the good ole Canadian law. Come here from the middle of nowhere bring your 12 children then go on wellfare for the rest of your life and hey, if you kill a few people or your own children for the sake of religion, we'll spend thousands of dollars in court fees and then put you up in a jail cell that is comparable to any 5 star hotel room in the country that you came from and feed you roast beef and potatoes for the rest of your life.

You seem to be stretching this any which way you want. I said I am Christian, I didn't say Canadian. Even so I do respect the lifestyle of this wonderful country. I dont try to bring here any of the shit that I was born into or was raised with.

Then try harder, 'cause from my point of view anyone saying they shouldn't have to respect the law here because someone is some other country isn't respecting our laws, certainly IS brining his "shit" with him.

Hello Sarge.

You respect this wonderful country - except for the crazy acceptance of all those immigrants with 12 children. Nice.

Shoo.

You try harder and get the point here. In case you are not aware, this discussion is strictly about religion not laws. Now do you see the kind of "shit" that I am reffering to?

Sarge, going back to why you started this discussion...it's coming to light that the media overblew the hijab thing regarding the murder case (this is what her friends at school told the media). The guy was pissed off that his daughter was running away from home at 16. Regardless of religion and how much of a fucked up asshole that would contemplate physical abuse of your offsprings to the point of death he was, I think anyone would be pretty pissed if their daughter did this.

That case has very little to do with religion, IMHO, more to do with a crazy psycopath that happens to be muslim. But it's the sort of news that gives unfound basis for hatred and stereotyping.

You say you're not very religious but you keep complaining how you couldn't wear a cross back in Turkey. You keep complaining about inmigrant families with 12 children on welfare, and yet you choos to live in a country that permits this behaviour and free expression of an individuals religion.

Sounds like you should start looking for a new country to call home.

well berzerker

we can be sure she won't be running away from home now. It's completely reasonable to be pissed off at your daughter running away from home. It would never even occur to any parent to examine the reasons why......

Berzerker, I guess "religious" like many other terms is relative. Again, I am not very religious and I don't think wearing a cross makes you religious. IMO going to church regulary (while not a bad thing) or making life decisions based on religion (all of which I don't do.) makes one religious / fanatic. I agree that this case was overblown and my comment about the immigrants with 12 children etc may be inappropriate. But I mean come on, everybody knows what I'm talking about. I just don't like the double standard thing. I am mad at the fact that everybody from everywhere gets the same opportunity to come to this country and do whatever they like where you wouldn't get a fraction of the things they get here if you went to their part of the world and you know what, Canada is still never good enough.

That' what I don't like... the double standards.

!

You don't really have to pay the employee for personal time. You, as a "caring" employer might want to make a prayer room available, but you don't have to pay for personal time.
