Anybody But Conservative - that's my voting strategy this time around. The funny thing is that before he called the election, I was beginning to get a bit more comfortable with the Conservatives and thought that any party that has stayed in a minority government as long as this cant be bad. But Harper's opportunism and back tracking has opened my eyes to the reality that they haven't changed at all. Not alone was he happy to about turn on his fixed date election legislation but he is happy to cost us $300 million for an election that nobody wants or needs. This money could have been better spent in reducing child poverty, boosting the economy, doing charitable works, building a new whatever ...... anything except an election that nobody wants or needs.

So make your vote ABC - Anybody But Conservative.

anything but Liberal is my mantra... those fuckers raise taxes and do less with more. and NDP, sure they mean well, but with them we'd give up our arctic waters, leave Afghanistan a worse mess than with us their, and establish significance only by being in opposition of any good idea brought up by any other party... that's NDP in a nutshell.

i'm going Green this time. i'm a traditional conservative, but the Harper gov't is too big and too heavily influenced by global corporate hegemony. errr... they are run by corporations.

i realize Harper will get a majority out of this election, but if a good Green support shows after Oct. 14th, It may bring greater recognition to the green party for the future. we need to do something to dissolve the Lib/Cons balance of power. my vote won't make much a diff, but it's my vote and right to do so.

My vote will be simple. I absolutely detest the MP in my riding on multiple levels so will vote for the most likely to beat them.

My reason not to vote Conservative is the party doesn't believe in a fair tax system and tries to buy votes with tax cuts that are immoral. Debt should be paid down by the baby boomers who incurred the debt and hidden environmental costs should be paid by the big corporations who make revenue at the expense of the environment. All the excuses and fear mongering about not being able to afford it is irrelevant. The transitional costs will just be greater if we keep passing the buck.

I really like the Green Party especially since they believe in proportional representation and have many progressive ideas. I would take it one step further though and have an IRV system in place. No one can convince me that we live in a true democracy until that happens. Conservatives with 41% of the vote should never have a chance at a majority when the country of Canada leans left.

I agree, it is hard to believe in democracy, when a large portion of votes are
discarded, and many are forced to vote for parties they do not believe in.

The green party will hopefully win some seats so they act as a balance on environmental issues.

If they won (not going to happen) then get ready for the biggest tax increases you have ever seen to pay for the multitude or govt sponsored programs they would implement. (Most of which would be money pits that would make the gun registration look like a drop in the hat).

If you think you will get tax relief from the Liberals or the NDP (Naturally Dumb People), your smoking high quality dope

300 million dollar is a lot of money to waste on an election. Anyway it show that Harper is a hypocrite ... creating a fixed election date and than breaking your own law. In past I vote conservative, and also liberal. This time I am either voting green or maybe just stay home.
If you read the law it actually only applies to majority gov's... so he is not breaking the law at all.

I pray that the cons get a majority this time - maybe then they can actually get some much needed changes taken care of. God help us all if the lib's get back in, and I don't even want to think of the damage the ndp would do....

What changes does Canada actually need? We live in the best country in the world. We need someone who can do a decent job with the economy. The Liberals did an excellent job here, the Conservatives lost the 13 billion dollar surplus on a bag of magic beans and cuts to the GST.

What changes do the Conservatives purpose that have everyone so hot and horny? They will change the laws to suit their religious values and not due that which is good for Canada.

You do realize it is not that simple of an equation regarding whether the Tory government benefits you even from an economical perspective?

I am just wondering whether you are rich or stupid.

Just out of curiosity, have you even read their platform? Just because they are "Green" doesn't mean they are "Liberal" in spending.

Harper - Handcuffs

Well, it did not take a Rocket Scientist to see all the Opposition Parties for the last year yelling about bringing down the government or threatening. Now it is just Hypocritical, as they did not get to call the election on their terms.

Last night...........at least Harper showed he knew about Handcuff Pleasures...and that is enough to get my vote. If you did not see the girl interview from 22 minutes, I am sure someone on here might be able to pull it UP.......

Go Harper Go

If Harper had been the pm in 2003 we would have gone to Iraq. The man is an imbecile imo. If the opposition were to run on a platform promising nothing but corruption and higher taxes; they'd probably still get my vote.

All the Lieberals do is talk about the surplus that they had... You do realize that was OUR money - that they STOLE from us by taxing us almost to death... That they used OUR money to bribe all their Lieberal friends and piss away on useless programs....

No thanks - I'll stick with a party that puts MY money back in MY pocket.

Yes that was our tax money and it was finally doing something. Paying down the debt. Every year we spend BILLIONS on servicing this debt. This too is our tax money being flushed down the toilet all because Canada owes money. We can debate all we want who is most responsible for getting us in debt and why. The fact is we still have a huge debt over 400 Billion dollars. Under the Liberal government and the first few years of this Conservative government we managed to start paying off this debt. It was well over 500 billion dollars.

Under the Liberal government we say a deficit that under Mulroney had risen to over 40 billion a year. I am not saying it was all the doing of the Liberal government that got it down, but they did correct thing with it. They used most of it to pay down the debt. They did give us a nice income tax break and did spend some.

I might well have voted for the Conservative government if they had have continued this practice, but they are flirting with a deficit much like the one the Harris government left us with in Ontario. It looks like the taxes from the ever increasing price of gas will see us to much smaller surplus than the one we should have had.

Now if you really want to see a decrease in taxes look to the liberal green shift plan. The new carbon tax will go after the biggest ones that pollute and will see an increase in heating costs, but the decrease in income tax will more than offset the increase in heating costs.

The real tax decreases we can see when and if we ever get rid of the debt. We will then have the billions we have to use every year in debt servicing costs for good sustainable tax breaks.

At least someone here remembers. Harper feared the backlash from the US and showed no caring what so ever for the Canadian soldier that would have been killed in this illegal war. This should have been the end of Harper's career. He showed the most amazing lack of judgment in recent history. What would he do if the US invaded another country like say Iran. Would he offer up Canadian blood?
