Slow down. Alomar (in my biased opinion) is the greatest second basemen I've ever seen play.

Yeah, that comparison seems a bit premature (well, maybe even a lot premature). But either way, it's great to have him back!

Let's talk about this again in say 5-6 years.
Give Hill more than a 1 month season shall we.

Aaron is having a great start to the season and has great range at SS. But Alomar is one of the best 2B I have seen, and he was a great clutch hitter (remember the HR of the Eckersley)

Aaron ain't the best defensively. Again tonight he threw away a dp ball in the ninth.

I love Aaron Hill, but Alomar was a sheer joy to watch. He was so graceful on the field, and some of his defensive plays will be the best that the Jays will ever see. And the offensive memories, especially in post-season play, will never be forgotten by me, and many other long time Jays fans!

I have to go along with most on here when they say Alomar was better than Hill. No disrepect to Hill, he is a terrific ball player, one of the few I like on the Jays, but Alomar is HOF material. As good as Hill is, he is up against some other quality second basemen in the AL, which will make it tough for him to be an all-star and/or to win a GG. Kinsler, Pedroia are arguably 1 and 1A with Roberts and even Iwamura being pretty good. Hill is most definitely one of the better ones. Top 5 no question.

There have been and will be many great hitters at all different positions.
Goomer, I like the way you put it "a sheer joy to watch" playing second base.

I also think Aaron is a great player, and I would like to see him play defense like Alomar... but I think some guys are just gifted with that kind of talent, and Aaron is not.

Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Michael Jordan, Steve Carlton, Peyton Manning, Pele, Nichalaus, Tiger Woods
etc... I truly believe that they had some sort of "gift" that hard work will never create.

For Gretzky it was his vision and ability to know where his teammates will be going.

Jordan it was motivating his teammates to perform at their peak, and then taking the game into his own hands.

Alomar had that talent in the field.

I remember Alomar being a great base runner. He was always a threat to steal and I remember he even steal home as well.

I don't remember a weakness in Alomar's game at all (except his attitude later in his career).

Funny, good one. Alomar was perhaps best over all player that ever wore a Jays uniform. Money in the bank when you needed a clutch hit or a defensive play.

Don't think so. Aaron Hill is definitely underrated and he was missed last year. But to compare him to Roberto Alomar is ridiculous. Here are Alomar's career #'s
Avg: .300
HR's: 210
RBI's: 1134
Runs: 1508
SB's: 474/588 81%

But even more impressive is his career OBP of .371 and his career playoff batting average of .317. And we haven't even got to his fielding capabilities. Clearly one of the best 2nd basemen of all time.

Hill has a LONG way to go to match these #'s.

By the age of 27, Alomar had:
6 Time All Star
5 Gold Gloves
1 Silver Slugger
3 Times in the Top 6 in MVP Voting.
3 Times Top 7 In AVG
2 Times Top 7 in OBP
2 Times Top 8 in Runs
4 Times Top 10 in Hits
5 Times in Top 5 in Stolen Bases
1 Spit on Umpire

Aaron Hill has not spit on any umpires. That's about the only thing he has done better.

Good point. Here is the counterpoint. Hill is currently 27 years old with probably another 12 years ahead of him. He should finish his career with the following numbers.
Avg: .288
HR: 212
RBI: 1150
Runs:
SB:

And you think he will be in the top 6 in MVP voting for at least five of those 12 years?

People are comparing Hill to Alomar. The TV guy did just it a couple of minutes ago. Even if Hill is "almost" as good as Alomar that is still pretty good.

Alomar was the best defensive 2nd baseman in Jays history, the next best i would be either Damaso Garcia or Orlando Hudson
