A new rape deterent...thoughts?

If every doctor has a means of removing it, the same means will be available to the rapist. I'm guessing it will promote a false confidence and assuming that the guy is a serial rapist out with the intent, he would simple proceed the dick with a stick, dildo, pickle - etc and feel even a little better about the experience. Since rape is suppose to be about domination - I'm guessing that it will be no difference in spraying him with mace as far as the abuse that will follow resisting him.

I really think it is more symbolic for women than it is practical.

Every twenty-six seconds a woman in South Africa is raped. It's an appalling statistic from a country that has one of the highest rates of rape in the world.

A recent study found over a quarter of South African men report having raped a woman. And those are just the ones who admit to it. The same study suggests the only way to stop the country's endemic sexual violence is by creating the kinds of long-term cultural changes that take generations to take effect.

I commend this person to try and do something to prevent a rape...it probably has advantages and disadvantages....Rape is a very bad thing...that should be punishable by death...I mean it...I saw a documentary on Anne Presley; a reporter in Arkansas I believe, and that really was disturbing...I wouldn't hesistate to pull the plug on the electric chair on that bastard that raped and killed her for one second..she unfortunately died...but the pain remains with her family and friends. The perpetrator got life in jail...I hope he rots in hell when he dies! So yeah, anything to prevent a rape I'm in favour of...hey it could be your sister, daughter, mother...etc!

Quite honestly I'm conflicted. At the same time almost all of us feel that the lack of human rights for many South Africans under the previous regime was horrible, this sort of nonsense wasn't going on.

It would seem that the West was all “hot to trot” about Apartheid, but could care less about African dictatorships.

Presumable this is a device that a woman can easily put on and take off.

All a potential rapist has to do is cop a feel before penetrating and pull out the device before violating his victim.

This is a poorly thought-out solution to a serious problem without easy answers.

I am not sure yet about the consequences of the Rape axe being available.

However:
Does anyone think that just the IDEA of a woman wearing something like this might actually be a deterrent? Even if only a small percentage of men think twice before raping a woman and decide not to in fear of this device, the Rape axe has done its job. No?

OT; I agree with lapdoggy, it will definitely be interesting to see how this one plays out. I am really hoping that the device does what it is intended to do, or at the very least deters rapists. What I h ope, is that violence against women does not escalate because of it.

Whats to prevent the rapist finding it and then turning it inside out before raping the woman ? If these are readily available what happens if the guys start wearing them (inside out) - how easy is it to remove from the woman ?
