Here's some nostalgia. Rewind back to 1999/2000. I was transitioning from a finance career to accounting because I hated the schmucks and phonies I was working/socializing with. This was my ride at the time - a 1999 Honda Prelude SH
1999 Honda Prelude Pearl White.jpg
I scrapped the factory sound system and put in a 450W aftermarket system with equalizer and box speaker. If my memory serves me correctly it cost me around $2.5K at the time. Heading uptown on Yonge Street for a meeting one day and stuck in traffic, I threw on The Art of Storytelling LP by Slick Rick. It was a comeback album for him and to this day I bump it more than his groundbreaking 1988 LP 'The Great Adventures of Slick Rick'. So I'm playing the album and I skip to this track
"Impress the Kid"

The bass was pumping, the sun was shining, I was getting looks from honeys galore. 26 years old and in my prime. Damn I loved that car. Sold it the next year to an Asian dude in Scarborough for way more than I should have gotten for it. They just wanted it to do the mods.

A classic underground electrofunk/dance tune from 1982
"Cavern" by Liquid Liquid

The bassline sampled so epically the next year by Grandmaster Flash for

"White Lines (Don't Do It)

Fast forward 16 years its 1999 and Mobb Deep drops this gem.

"Quiet Storm"
Producer Havoc isolates and slows the tempo of the same bassline. So dope!

Candi has a vast catalogue of music
another "rocker' to explore....Id Rather Be An Old Mans Sweetheart
and if you are in a mellow quiet place try these 2 ballads...How Can I put Out The Flame......and He Called Me Baby
no autotune, no techy stuff, real musical instruments....most important , raw and genuine energy and emotion
sorry...when it comes to Candi, I get carried away lol

Same era. Donell Jones feat. Left Eye from the group TLC. I played the death out of this CD.

1999 was my highest earnings year in my career. I was pulling in stupid amounts of cash basically just being a kiss ass artist. But it wasn't for me. So in the fall of 1999 I started my accounting career at a small CA firm in midtown Toronto. Best decision I ever made. Ya that car was fun and helped get me laid a few times. That car still fetches good money on the auction sites.

This is one of my favorite 80's R&B jams. So smooth

"Happy" by Surface

What originally put me onto this song was this Trackmasters (Poke & Tone) production for R. Kelly aka Prisoner #48312

Alexander O'Neal is one of my favorite vocalists of all time. Huge in the mid to late 80's, a project of super producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. This tune is from his second LP 'Hearsay' released in 1987. Lisa Keith with the stellar background vocals

Again I'm going to mention the production being very reminiscent of the sound Kashif created in the early 80's.

Massive 80's tune. An anti gold digger anthem.

My girl Chaka Khan. This is 1981's "Fate". A non single from her album 'What'cha Gonna Do For Me'

The intro sampled on one of the biggest dance club tunes ever.

I totally forgot about this group. They debuted in the mid 90's and were a project of Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis' Flyte Time Entertainment. I even bought the CD back in the day, it must be buried in my stash. Unless I resold it.

Same year this tune from Hi-Five. Was sorta my anthem because I was digging on this chick so much when this song came out and I knew that she liked me but she preferred the brothers.

RIP Tony Thompson. RIP Roderick "Pooh" Clark.

A Stax classic from 1967. The Bar-Kays. From their debut LP 'Soul Finger'. I was today years old when I found out that the founder of Stax Records was a white dude 🤯
