I've got the Tami/TNT Show on Blue-Ray DVD, 2 disc set.
James was riding the success of his first 'Live At The Apollo" LP, but hadn't yet had much exposure to a white audience.
The rumour was that the Stones were afraid to go on after James, after hearing how nuts the crowd was going for him, but the crowd was even wilder for them...
I saw James and his full band in 1964 at the University Of Minneapolis field house, doing the full Live At The Apollo set with an extended Please Please Please just like in the Tami show. Although I was into Motown, etc., I had never heard of him before, as he got no radio play in Winnipeg.
My buddies and I were the only 4 white guys in the standing-room-only audience, and we only heard about the concert because we were staying at a Jewish frat house on campus over New Year's for a Hillel convention. My mind was blown, so I went to a record store the next day on Hennepin St. in Minneapolis and bought the LP. Wore the grooves out when I got it back home to Winnipeg...
