Here's an interesting one:

Cholli Maye - "You Will Never Get Away" (1963)

Some say Cholli was actually Shirley Alston of the Shirelles. I dunno. Sure sounds like Shirley...

Little Ann - "Who Are You Trying To Fool" (recorded in 1969 but never officially released, until Kent in Britain released it around 2002.)

Kent also released a single with the same title as an identical instrumental version without Little Ann's vocal, by the Dave Hamilton Orchestra.

Gonna sign off for a bit with a steamy downtempo number from Brenda Starr:

"Satan, Let Me Sleep Tonight" (2011)

Closing off the night with this stunner:

The Ideals - "The Mighty Lover" (1969)

Boo-Ga-Loo Records, gotta love it :)
Great sound, I've heard of the Ideals. Gonna look up more of their stuff.

Gotta follow it with their 1963 hit "Take This Love I Got"

How about Robert Ward's tremolo guitar playing!
when I listened to this tune you posted ... I realized it was on one of Wilson,s early albums..Midnight Hour and ,again . as a kid I bought the album.....and I couldn't get enough of this song.im posting...this one epitomizes the sound I just loved as a pimply faced 15 or 16 year old lol...….That's a Mans way..https://youtu.be/-aMXAoAvcEg

As ogibowt referenced this was James & Bobby Purify's biggest hit. When I first played it I almost fell off my chair because I immediately recognized it as a sample of a rare hip hop record from the 90's.

Here's the I'm Your Puppet sample by Grand Daddy I.U. A one and out rapper from the 90's. Just blows me away that they picked this sample.

Great version. Have to say I like the Stax band (Booker T. et al) better than whoever was backing up James & Bobby, but excellent vocals.

Here's Sam & Dave's version for comparison...

For my money, Sam Moore was one of the greatest southern soul singers of all time.

Hey K Douglas and ogibowt,

Lots more soul left to post, but I also have some neo-Righteous brothers stuff, about 10 songs, that I'll either post here or in a new thread. Technically blue-eyed soul, but in most cases don't know if the leads are black or white. Most with a Phil Spector style production...

So would you like to see it here, or is it heresy and should I start a new thread?

keep in mind that a lot of the Stax/Muscle Shoals musicians were white, but they were part of the Black music scene so to speak......and Phil Spector produced quite a number of Black artists.....were those tunes Black music....I would say yes......there are plenty of blue eyed soulsters around, be it today or yesteryear, including the Righteous Bros...….maybe they deserve their own thread

OK. One favourite before April 11 ends...

Brenda Duff - "Got To Get To Know You" (1967)

Btw the photo on the YouTube cover page is the person who posted it on YouTube, and not the artist.
