From one of my favorite LP's ever. This is my second favorite MJB joint. R&B with hip hop flava. Production handled by the duo of Mark Morales (Prince Markie Dee of Fat Boys fame) and Mark C. Rooney. You could literally say they were on the "Mark" with this beat.

"Changes I've Been Going Through"
Again...i like MJB,s voice..but in this track the drum machine kinda drowns her out...the production team should of put that in the background and tone it down in order to emphasize her voice..imo...

Fair enough. The drum beat is definitely prominent and me being a hip hop fan is probably why I love it. I will say that Mary's vocals definitely matured between this debut LP in 1992 to her 1994 sophomore album 'My Life'. Here are a couple songs from that one

"My Life"

"'I'm Goin' Down"

Dougie...there is a certain vulnerability and melencholy to her voice,,,damn it if she was a 60,s deep Soul Artist..she would be right up there with the best of them

Another song my father played endlessly in the car.
Black people have some serious pipes, so good, like Whitney Houston. I can't think of any female that had a voice like hers, Mariah was very close (maybe better range?), but something about Whitney.
Technically Whitney had an incredible range...and a beautiful singing voice........but for me personally she just lacked that extra oomph........call it Soul.the abillity to emote feelings, emotions, sadness and joy...for me that is more important than a great set of pipes...but hey..that,s just me
Examples?..Etta James, Candi Staton, Darlene Love, Ronnie Spector, Betty Lavette, Ann Peebles, Carla Thomas, Aretha Franklin..just to name a few

Way back in the 50's, 60's, and early 70's it always amazed me how mediocre white artists sold lots of records, while great black artists were ignored by white radio, and therefore by most white audiences.

Black artists had to be amazing to get crossover radio play at all...

Who am I to argue. Lol
However, here's Whitney anyways.
This song just hits so good.
Normally don't care much for celebrities being gone, but she was taken away far too soon like Michael.

I get what you're saying. Part of that is because of the image and production. She was geared towards pop as opposed to soul.

Dougie..good point...i enjoy alot of pop..hey im well rounded..lol... she was geared toward pop is right...but her talent was undeniable...not as "earthy" as others..except the song I Want To "Dance" With Somebody....a song that,s really not about dancing lol
