To XMONTREALER, and others who are fans of soul music from the 1960s, PBS is doing a 3 hour special titled, 60s and 70s Soul Celebration featuring hit songs from some of the top singers of the past. The Temptations, The Chi-Lites, The Spinners, Patti LaBelle, James Brown. It starts at 7.30 tonight, I have scheduled to tape it and really looking forward to watching it. Cheers guys.

Oh my goodness. The 70's are undefeated. A little Philly blue eyed soul/rock courtesy of the highest selling musical duo of all time.

To me, Daryl Hall was the star and Oates was the backup. Loved their music.
I would generally agree with that. Hall did most of the songwriting and singing. Oates has a good voice though. And he was a multi instrumentalist.
I consider Darryl Hall to be one of the most underrated vocalists of all time.

Just heard this on Rock the Bells this afternoon. First time hearing this in ages. From 1999. A bit too much cursing but otherwise dope.

From 1992. Kym Sims "A Little Bit More". Produced by Steve 'Silk' Hurley. I still have this cassette tape.

What a time. I wish I could go back there.

This is a remix from a CD compilation called Urban Gems that I bought back in 1996 when I was working at King and Bay. At lunch I used to walk over to Yonge to all the record stores. Sometimes browsing sometimes buying. I miss those days.
The last track was "Free/Sail On" by Chante Moore. This is the Ras Kwame Sugar Shack Mix

Track #11 from the debut self titled LP for BLACKstreet.

Levi Little with the lead vocals just smashed it. Song was co-written by Michael Jackson.

I so miss when mainstream R&B music had this type of vibe. Zhane were legit. Only 2 albums released but they knocked.

This is my favorite Dionne Warwick song. Written by the epic team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David One of their many mini symphonies, if you will. That piano is my favorite tho.

Years later Sybil released her version. As much as I like it , it doesn't do justice to the original. Some songs are just not meant to be remade and this is one of them.

Last year the Doja Cat sampled the original on her song "Paint the Town Red". Jesus we're lost 😟

Sweetback was created by the members of the band Sade. I completely forgot about this collaboration they did with one of my favorite singers, Amel Larrieux.

"We Can Make it Alright" by Gap Band (1989). My 2nd favorite song from them. Sing it Uncle Charlie.
