a Sam Cooke sound alikeAlso sampled "Make This Young Lady Mine" by The Mad Lads on Stax
Hall & Oates, Steely Dan, two top favourites of mine. Also, does anyone remember a song written and recorded by Johnny Cash in 1959 titled, 5 Feet High a d Rising?Any connection to 3 Feet High and Rising? LOL.3 Feet High and Rising is in my top 10 hip hop albums of all time. The debut album from De La Soul was released in 1989. Here's a couple reasons why
1. "Say No Go"
Which of course extensively samples Hall & Oates "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)" which is one of the greatest songs ever recorded as far as I'm concerned
Darryl Hall is a criminally underrated vocalist and songwriter
2. "Eye Know"
Great sample of Steely Dan's "Peg"
Indeed yes that was a big sample. Didn't know that was a Stax artist. Also sampled "Make This Young Lady Mine" by The Mad Lads on Stax
Its amazing the Temptations had two of the greatest soul/r&b vocalists of all time in David and Eddie.David "hittin' the high notes" at "The Summer Of Soul" festival NYC 1969, the documentary that won the Oscar right after the Will Smith/Chris Rock slap. A must watch documentary!

This was his biggest hit I'm pretty sure.
This is signature Van McCoy sound that I immediately recognized. Never heard this one before. Nice.
