Wow. I didn't quite know the details of this story until tonight. Tells you how utterly useless condo and other boards are. If it's a non-profit board then you're pretty much guaranteed they'll be filled with incompetent idiots. Then again, landlords can be just as incompetent. Only difference between a condo board and a landlord is you have the illusion of control in a condo. The competent people want nothing to do with these things.

Obviously, but they should have been taking valid concerns to the police, right? It sounds like they threw incarceration into a civil motion, but could be a poorly written article. I would guess including it in a civil motion is just meant to fuck someone around in court.

Benny Marrotta is a crook. I have inspected a few dozen homes built by his companies. Shortcuts, structural inadequacies, leaks, missing insulation, you name it. And while I've never had it happen to me, all of the owners tell me stories of bribery and intimidation.
Add into this the fact that most people in the last 4-5 years have stretched to purchase these homes. Once the issue is discovered, the homes lose hundreds of thousands of dollars in value overnight. TARION is owned by the builders, so there is no relief there.
People who are living paycheque to paycheque end up with 5 or 6 figure bills just to keep the outdoors outdoors. And their options are: Lose their shirt selling, pay to fix it, or pay the same amount and wait 5 years to get it fixed.
I don't condone what Villi did, but I've met more than a few people who are in the same state of mind over their housing situations. And I know of a few who chose to just end it themselves rather than bring others with them.

Maybe your right but are you really going to put the "gangsters shooting up at Jane and Finch" as an example here? In the case of Vili, well he wasn't given the benefit of the doubt since he lost all his cases vs. the board....and he got a swift police justice by getting shot...
I don't work in justice, and I agree with you. No one with stable housing and a full belly is shooting up anything or anyone. I grew up next to a Native Reserve; people ain't stealing trucks out of driveways or smuggling smokes because they've got everything they need to live.
I think the opposite is true.
