Although wrong for taking the lives of others, it looks like there was some validity to his claims.

Two separate inspectors agreed with him.

I don't think he was mentally ill. His emotions and pride pushed him over the edge.

All guns should just be banned for good.

That said, really sad how this guy had mental health issues for so long and nothing was done about it.

??? A 73 year old who's been living here for decades is new?

BTW. It is rare to see a thread on a shooting where no one's trying to make this a race issue.
If you die by a bullet do you think the race of the individual matters?

I've dealt with condo residents like this guy. You just have to be more crazy than them and get your point across to not fuck with you in a very convincing manner. Be the biggest dog in the yard.

I'm sorry for the people and the families be killed. I'm sorry for his family too. Can you imagine the terror he inflicted on them?
Do you really believe you would have scared him off from knocking on your door and as he hears you about to open it, opening fire at the big DOG?

While the shooting can never be justified it sure looks like the condo board dicked him over royally. They ignored two inspections of clear problems. And between sleep deprivation, electromagnetic effects on the brain, toxic fumes effects, his own probable mental health issues, helped create the powder keg he became.

The fixes I read involved installing a drop ceiling, plugging caulking holes to further stop sould carrying, adding proper ventilation( reported as inadequate).

Add in some sound proofing and it sounds like this could have been fixed. But it looks like they chose to either be cheap didn't like him, and didn't want to admit liability.

He was also a former builder from reports, so he had a grasp of what was wrong.

Just out of interest, would like to know if the humming and vibrations he complained of coming from the electrical room underneath his apartment really existed. Why would an electrical room be under his apartment? What would cause the noise and vibrations? Will the next tenant/owner of his apartment experience the same problems?

From the Globe...

An October, 2019, court order was issued against Mr. Villi prohibiting him from communicating with the condo board or condo employees. He was ordered to stop making video and audio recordings of them, and to remove posts from social media, where he had posted a variety of rants and escalating threats.

This fall the condo corporation initiated legal processes to request his incarceration and to force him to sell his unit. “In its motion, the condominium requests a term of imprisonment for Mr. Villi,” Justice Mary Vallee of Ontario Superior Court wrote in a Sept. 26, 2022, order.

Wtf, requesting imprisonment? Did somebody go a bit too far?

Evidently, with six dead, their fears were warranted.

So no, I don't think anyone went to far. Just too slow.

It likely never existed except for in his mentally deranged mind. The maintenance people were probably in there multiple times and didn't hear anything out of the ordinary.

This asshat is dead. Good riddance .
Actually they did. News reports show two separate inspections, one city, one paid for by the condo showed clear problems with toxic fumes, electromagnetic waves, and constant noise(fans going off every hours, 24 hours a day).

The board chose not to fix it.

Yes, yes, and the board knew for awhile.

Likely was in the disclosure when he bought the condo. As soon as he put his signature to it, all liability was gone. I just asked a real estate buddy this.
Actually i wonder if it wasn't. Either way there is a human failure here by the condo borad to address a very real health and safety issue not just for this tenant but others in the area as well. This is their job.
